Web marketing involves creating a broad social footprint that also includes mobile. A website must now broadcast and respond with conversation across the network, using more than e-mail newsletters.
I teach and empower DesignWise clients to build and cultivate relationships using a variety of open-source tools. I like small, locally-focused businesses, especially individuals with a campaign to roll out.
I have written a free book on "The 6 Steps to a Social Business", and I teach courses in using social media, all available online.
Question and answer
Q. Describe three recent jobs you've completed.
A. I have just created a marketing DVD for furniture maker and designer MichaelDoerr.com which includes a film, two slideshows of his work, a collection of PDFs and capped it with a custom label that has room for Michael to autograph each one as he gives them to interested customers at trade shows.
I am filming a series of lectures that will make up 2 courses in Leadership and Inspiration taught by Dr. Bill McConkey. We will extract some 2-3 minute marketing tickler videos and establish a YouTube channel to promote sales and enrollment.
I am also launching DoorCountySailing.com a regional, magazine and guide site to encourage and promote sail cruising and racing in Door County, Wisconsin.
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. I would checkout their resources. Do they publish an active Website with an RSS feed that connects to their Facebook Page and Tweet out valuable news? Do they have a YouTube Channel? Do they utilize Google Places and +1? In other words, do they actually walk-the-walk?
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. There are so many different places to start, but that shouldn't stop you from taking step one. Start anywhere that interests you but every business should be sure to claim their free business map listing on Google Places. I have assembled a starting plan in a free book, available for download at my DesignWise, net Website, filled with insider secrets!
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. How Many years have you been actively engaged with developing Web marketing campaigns? Can you show me some live examples or case studies that illustrate your philosophy in action? Can you help us create a Web presence that generates an RSS feed? Do you know what the 2nd most popular search engine is? (No, it's not Bing... it's YouTube.) Do you have the capabilities to help us create a presence there with a channel in YouTube? Do you create Facebook Pages for business? Can you link our Website to that FB page and add in a shopping cart? Do like to work with clients who want to get their own hands on the steering wheel and be creative?
