Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.
A. My main focus two fold - performing Reiki and Crystal Healing sessions for my clients. some of which choose tot take classes and become Reiki as a way to empower themselves and take their healing into their own hands.
Teaching Reiki classes is the other part of my focus. I connect others to the Divine Life Force Energy that is Reiki so that they can channel it for themselves and others for the benefit of all.
Itis not unusual for a Reiki session with me to last for two, three even four hours (you are only charged for the time you have scheduled, i.e. if you scheduled a one hour session or a 90 minute session, you are are charged for that length of time. This is unusual and particular to me. As I mentioned earlier, people just open up to me and we can spend a lot of time in just "talking". Very healing.
I was taught by both my Reiki Master Teachers that a Reiki session includes treating both the front and the back of the body. Most Reiki practitioners who work on the public do not, they only treat the front of the body and only spend an hour in a session.
I treat the back of the body because countless times my clients have had huge emotional energy block releases in the back of the body and so many people have issues with their back - back pain, or kidney issues, adrenal burn out, etc.
I also spend a lot of time just talking with my clients. People just naturally open up to me and talk. I am a good listener and have good, sound information that can help them because I have experienced so much in my own life in the way of illnesses (both physical and emotional) and trauma.
So many people just need someone to listen to their story. I am that person.
Q. Describe three recent jobs you've completed.
A. I recently became an Intuitive Life Coach and have been working very hard to get comfortable with this work and to know it inside and out. I did a lot of free sessions for many months to get the experience, and now am very comfortable offering it to the public at the suggested rate that my teacher advised. I find the work absolutely fascinating and as with many of the things I do, I find that all the things I've learned and done before come into play with this work, and it comes very easily to and naturally to me.
It is very personal work, you get to know people on a very intimate level right off the bat. People have to share with you sometimes some very painful information from their past, but it is so healing to do that. Especially when they begin to see the patterns of the nine year cycles of reinvention that we all go through (Numerology is part of this work).
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Call and talk to any practitioner. you are interested in seeing first. Then make an appointment to meet them and see if you feel you and they are a good match. Not everyone is going to be a good fit for you, their belief systems and philosophies may defer greatly from yours,
If they have testimonials, read them. Have other people seen them and made comments about how much their work helped them? Look over their websites carefully. How long have they been in practice, and how much other training do they have? Also find out if they do any community service, or if they are willing to work with peoples financial situations such as offering sliding scale fees (I do).
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. Reiki is love. Love from the Creator, from the Universe. To understand that we, the people of Earth, have been gifted with a miraculous method of healing not only for ourselves but for everyone and everything around us is to know Reiki. If everyone on the planet became Reiki, there would be no more wars, poverty, starvation, food shortages, pollution, homelessness (the list goes on and on. The woman I like to call "The Mother of Reiki" Mrs. Takata (Takata Sensei) sewed the seeds of Reiki throughout the whole planet, and the fruits of those seeds now number in the hundreds of thousands, if not millions of Reiki practitioners now present on planet Earth.
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. If you are thinking of having a Reiki session and know very little about Reiki, visit the practitioners website you are considering and see if what they write about themselves and if Reiki resonates with you. Make sure they are an experienced provider and have testimonials. Someone who is reputable in this field will offer a free consultation so that you can meet them first and ask them any questions or voice any concerns you have before you actually have a session with them.
This also applies to anyone who is considering taking Reiki classes. The teacher should offer a free consultation so that you can meet them and get a feel for their personality (we call this their energy) to see if you are a good match first. Make sure they are certified by other reputable teachers and preferably have some experience.
Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?
A. Are you tired of suffering and covering it up with medications and treatments by western medical practitioners that don't work, cost you a fortune and give you godawful side effects that make you sicker than you were before you started taking them? Stop covering up and suppressing and really heal.
Have they gone on line and looked up what Reiki is (like going to websites of other Reiki Practitioners like myself who explain what Reiki is and what it can do for them in great detail)?
Have they talked to others who have had a Reiki session or a series of sessions or have become Reiki and use it on themselves, family members or friends? Have they checked out the testimonials on the websites of Reiki practitioners or gone to a "Reiki Talk and Demonstration" given by Reiki teachers that invite the public to come and learn about what Reiki is, how it works and what it can do for them?
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. I have studied and experimented with Reiki extensively because I felt that I had to know it inside and out in order to utilize it fully for the service of my clients. If you do something as important as bringing health and well being to other human beings, I feel it is your duty to be up on the very latest information on whatever technique/s you use. I continue to do ongoing studies of other healing modalities and to open myself even more to Spirit.
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. I am a people person. I love talking to people and helping them to understand what it is that they are struggling with, then help them to come up with viable solutions to make their lives better, and to get to a place where they can fully be who they are meant to be.
I find it very rewarding to help someone see how much they needed a rest, how tense they were before they came in for a session, and how relaxed they can be after a session. Or to empower someone to help themselves or their loved one by connecting them to Reiki in Reiki Classes so that they can self-treat when they need it, treat their child or partner,o r send distant Reiki to an ailing relative or friend that they cannot physically be there for. It takes away that awful feeling of futility, that helplessness of "I can't do anything" and empowers you because YOU CAN make a difference, a tangible difference, by sending them Reiki or joining a Distant Healing Group to send Reiki to situations like the horrific natural disasters in Japan or our environment.
Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A. What does it feel like to get a Reiki session?
It varies so much from person to person and session to session, but there are some common experiences that many people who've had Reiki report.. At times there is a lot of heat coming from the practitioners hands or even cold (this varies depending on what the body needs). Sometimes the receiver might feel lots of tingling, pulsing, or swirling energy in their hands and feet, or where the practitioners hands are, or in other parts of the body other then where the practitioner's hands are. They may also see bursts of light or color ,or colors going in and out like a kaleidoscope behind their closed eyes. I am often asked what do the colors means. I was recently given an very extraordinary explanation. Some people say that the colors are representative of the different frequencies or vibrations of the energy that is coming in to do what is required in whatever area is being worked on. They are usually the rainbow colors but also possible white, gold or silver, or sometimes black, brown and grey. Again, it varies from person to person and session to session.
Sometimes an energy block is released (an energetic "knot" of stuck, negative emotional energy) . When a block is being released or melted, the Reiki practitioner experiences this as a tremendous amount of heat coming in (their face may get hot or their whole body, and they may break out in a sweat). People have told me it feels like my hands are hot coals, or that my hands feel like a heating pad on high. This is normal and a very good thing. After the block or knot or stuck negative energy is released and the area is healed, there is no longer any restriction or energy, nutrients etc. in the area.
Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?
A. That it is just as relaxing and stress reducing as getting a massage, if not more so. More than not, my clients fall into a very deep sleep while receiving Reiki, we call this Reiki slumber. We know that deeper healing takes place when our client can allow themselves to go deep like this as it activates your bodies own natural ability to heal - you have a natural healing process in your body that can only be activated when you are at rest (completely calm, relaxed and at rest). Reiki gives you the opportunity to rest so that your natural healing process can kick in and enhances it. I also gets your ego out of way. Some people have even told me it's better than a massage because it doesn't hurt!
One of the main benefits of Reiki is it's stress reducing abilities but it also brings the body, mind and energy field into balance, and opens, clears and balance all the chakras.
There is nothing "woo woo" about this work. It is very calming, and soothing and can relieve pain, help you sleep better and so much more.
Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?
A. I believe you are called to do this kind of work. For me it was a natural progression from T'ai Chi instructor to Reiki Practitioner. Both utilize energy, some say the same kind of energy (universal life force energy). My journey as a healer began when my T'ai Chi instructor told me I was "doing healing work" when I took over her T'ai chi
classes when she retired. T'ai chi is a form of ancient Chinese medicine, as is Qigong and Acupuncture. This got me thinking about the fact that I was in essence a healer and then Reiki just sort of popped out at me. Someone in my T'ai chi class was Reiki and gave me a session. I just had a "knowing" that I wanted to learn it and after I took several classes, to teach it, just like the knowing I had with wanting to teach T'ai Chi. T'ai Chi helped me to recover my health and sanity after a long protracted illness that nothing and no one couldn't fix.
Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?
A. I am continually learning more and more ways to use Reiki as well as taking classes in other healing modalities that compliment Reiki, like Crystal Healing. I am certified to Level One in Crystal Healing and have taken other Crystal Healing classes to further my skills. I did Spiritual Healing for the Spiritualist Church and studied Mediumship there for more than a year. I recently became a Kaurna Reiki Master Teacher also and offer Karuna Reiki classes in addition to Usu Reiki classes. I believe one should never stop learning - there is so much to learn and I find it all exciting and fascinating!
Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.
A. Because I offer several services and all at different rates I will list them below:

$65 for one hour and $80 for 90 minutes for Karuna Reiki.

I offer "by donation only" Reiki sessions, one week out of every month (the last week of the month) as my way of giving back to the community, and work on a sliding scale for those who need it.
Reiki sessions can also be bought in blocks - 3-5 sessions also at incremental discounts.
Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?
A. Visit with and/or have sessions with several different teachers in your area. If they have testimonials on their website check those out. Some people are going to resonate with your energy better than others. If you know someone who is Reiki ask about their teacher (word of mouth is always preferred). Make sure that they are accredited and experienced. Do not go to someone who offers classes in all the levels very quickly.
Each level should be done separately with a minimum of 30 days in between, although it is highly recommended that you take much longer in between each level (6 months to a year, especially from level one to level two ). You need to fully incorporate and work with each level until you feel it is time to go onto the next one. I I would never tell my students when it is time to move up to the next level. That is their decision. Anyone who tells you it's time you moved up, does not have your highest good in mind, only their pocketbook.
Q. What is your greatest strength?
A. I am a people person, I can talk to anybody, anywhere about anything. People just naturally open up to me. I wanted to be a psychologist in college so it is no surprise that I do what I do, which is spend a lot of time in conversation with my clients. It is not unusual for a session to last 3-4 hours because of this. I find that many people feel comfortable enough with me to tell me their story, share their deepest wounds and issues and I help them to heal them with Reiki and with an sympathetic ear.
I feel it's imperative to be a good listener, to make people feel that you know where they are coming from because you have your own wounds, and your own story just like they do. It is those wounds and stories that make us a compassionate, good listener. You can really understand someones pain if you've been there too.
Q. What are you currently working on improving?
A. I am reading the very latest book out there on Reiki "This is Reiki" by Frank Arjava Petter, one of the worlds best authors about Reiki. This book has dramatically changed the way I do Reiki sessions, sessions now are absolutely incredible. I am always trying to find new ways to do things, new ways to go even deeper, heal even more, help even more. I set a life goal for myself to read every Reiki book I could and try all the exercises and applications in them and this has lead to some amazing discoveries - there is so much more to Reiki then you can ever imagine and so much more to learn.
