Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Composing the music and performing the instruments for songwriters, as well as recording other performers, designing and maintaining websites (active hosting) and providing monthly visitor statistics, creative graphic designs for websites and CD labels and inserts, and designing, maintaining, and interlinking social networking sites for my clients. Much more. . . .

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Nobody works as tightly with clients as I do. You have complete input and control over getting what you want out of your music or website at multiple phases along the way.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. My clients have control over their music at several stages, rather than after it's already done. Students like the fact that they can start playing in weeks, rather than months by doing it by ear rather than sheet music/tab. I am the only music equipment consultant I know of in Wisconsin. My websites are one of the most affordable (if not the most) around, and my clients love my "active hosting" rather than having to (learn to) do everything themselves.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. As a kid, I enjoyed music, electronics, and then computers. Now I have a job that incorporates all 3.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. What are your methods like? For songwriter demos, I do "spec and approval", which means I focus on writing the music first, and then let the client listen to it and make changes BEFORE the carefully done tracks are started. This offers the ability to MAKE changes, without wasting money tossing out labored-over tracks. My students like the fact they get playing quick, and can learn to play the songs (student supplied) they listen to that makes them want to play. I use a completely original "by-ear" method that gets students playing in a few weeks, and completely finished in under 3 years.
