About Storyteller Videography & Mix My Clips

Storyteller Videography goes above and beyond the "norm!"
Storyteller Videography is passionate about telling your wedding, family or business story through the art of film making. We're the home of the "two-day shoot" because it's hard to tell a story in just a few hours of filming!

We go all out to create a truly one-of-a-kind film for you. After the brainstorming phase, we storyboard, create a list of shots and locations necessary to accomplish the goal of effective movie making. Storyteller then spends multiple days shooting with our clients to capture the footage necessary to effectively tell a unique story. This is very unusual in the videography business, but it is part of the Storyteller commitment to all of our clients.

Mix My Clips brings professional editing to your home movies!
What can you do with decades of video tapes in different formats you have sitting around your house? VHS, VHS-C, HI-8, Mini-DV, Beta..argh! Doesn't looking through stacks of pictures and photo albums get a bit dull?

Allow us to bring professional-level post production to your home movies! Mix My Clips is dedicated to mixing your old and new films and photos into something new and fresh to share with the world.

Mix My Clips takes your raw footage and creates something memorable for a fraction of what other companies charge to edit their own fresh tape. We can take a large variety of formats and mix it into something you'll be proud to show off to your friends on YouTube or link through your Facebook page.

Not only is your final product secure, you and your friends can watch it on any web-enabled device. Do you prefer to have it on DVD instead? We can do that, too!

Very professional and friendly. Mike did a great job.

Mike is a complete professional and was so easy to work with. I approached him with an idea that I hadn't really thought all the way through, and he took off with it, producing a precious piece of history for us that I cannot wait to share with family and friends. After one day of filming with Mike, our family considers him a friend, and I would recommend him to anyone in the market for a videographer.

My experience working with Mike was FANTASTIC. His talent, knowledge and experience gave me one of the most beautiful videos to help promote my business. Far better than I had expected. He took the time to get to know me to make sure the product we put out was an honest reflection of me and my business. I would HIGHLY recommend Storyteller Videography for anything. . .weddings, businesses, families. . .he is by far the best in town and I look forward to working with him again on future projects!!!

Mike is amazing. He puts you at ease, and lets you just be yourself. I'm not super comfortable in front of a camera, but I barely noticed the cameras! Thank you, Mike! Your the best!

Mike Thole did a fantastic job as videographer for my daughter's August wedding. He was very personable and professional to work with. Mike is a perfectionist and spent the entire wedding day capturing morning, ceremony, and reception highlights. We would highly recommend him and feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with him!

Mike Thole created a high quality video in celebration of an employee that was retiring. We were so pleased with the quality of the work and value. Mike is extremely creative, flexible and a true professional. If we have projects in the future he would clearly be the person we would call.

I really enjoyed working with Mike on my video project. Although I gave him limited time to complete the project, he exceeded my expectations with the final product. My company was very happy with video he created. I would highly recommend his services.

Mike was able to create a DVD (and several copies) of my dad's memorial service for family that weren't able to attend. He had suggestions that enhanced the finished product and I couldn't be more pleased with the final results. The service was exceptional and the cost was very resonable. I would highly recommend Mix My Clips.

Michael was GREAT!! He did such a professional and thorough job. He thought of everything. It was really fun to see the end result. The one he did of my house was excellent and the realtor and clients all loved it. It was especially fun for me to see the transitions right before my eyes. I think anyone who has a house for sale (especially in this crazy market) would benefit from this extra touch. It is so much better than the average photo tours realtors set up! Michael also did a video of my sons sports history and that was really fun too. It will be fun to add to and watch as he grows older. This is such a neat way to organize videos and pictures! Definitely the wave of the future for digital pictures! ~ Thanks Mike!

Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Know what you're looking for. In the field of videography, there are so many options, styles and quality levels. Like everything, great videography may cost a bit more, but in the same way you'll regret skimping on your photographer, you'll regret getting videography "on the cheap." Try to shop quality, not cost. I'll compete with anyone on product, but I won't compete on price.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. For home movie editing, know what kind of sources they have and their working timeframe. Although an editor can make artistic decisions regarding raw film and photos, it's best if the client knows their sources and orders them as they expect them to appear.
It's also important to know what type of music you want on your production and to understand the legalities of using certain favorite songs.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. With Storyteller Videography, I've decided to provide added value to my clients by committing to telling a deeper story. This requires additional shooting time to make a more meaningful movie. However, you'll find that we are still competitive with what others are charging in the Twin Cities who are doing quality wedding films. Similar price, but a much more personalized story. We hate "cookie cutter" wedding video!

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. Seeing the final result... as a painter sits back and enjoys what he created on canvas, seeing what can be done with unused footage and photos is exciting. Put another way, it's not unlike taking the ingredients for a meal home from the store. While they can be enjoyed separately, they are truely memorable when mixed by the hands of a fine chef. I aspire to be that fine chef with your raw footage.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. Can you do ________? And my answer is ALWAYS yes... because if I can't, I'll personally connect them with someone that I KNOW will do a great job on their project. I've done it many times. I don't believe being in business is about just about making a buck off of each person I meet, but I value developing a relationship with them which may pay off in future project considerations.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. I've been in customer service in various forms througout my life... as a waiter, chauffeur, teacher and local ice cream man. I know how important it is that the client is satisfied and I won't rest, or expect full payment, until my client is satisfied!

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. I've been doing video editing for 25 years "on the side" and teaching full time in an urban setting for 19 years. After accepting the early retirement package offered by SPPS in 2011, I've jumped into offering my video services full time! My desire to tell deeper stories (after working on more traditional wedding "music videos") has led me to launch Storyteller Videography in the fall of 2013.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. I have done a number of trainings with those at the top of the videography field. It's important to stay on top of the latest techniques, not only in the "nuts and bolts" of editing, but in story telling and being a true film maker!
