Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Every budget can be met but sacrifices in quality usually accompany a low bid. Share your budget with your prospective contractor and ask direct questions about his bid. There is always a way for an ethical contractor to give you what you need....sometimes what you want needs to wait.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Bidwork is typically padded not as a way to make extra money from an unsuspecting customer but as a hedge against increasing material costs. Example: In the last thirty days, some of our materials increased 20%. Watch for time limited estimates. This is usually unpadded and is the mark of an old-school honest contractor that wont take risks just to get a job.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. Do you have references? How long have you been in business. Tell us about mistakes that you have made or problems that you have had and how you remedied the situation.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. Carefully develop a budget.
Set a reasonable timeline for the project. A timeline that is to short drives the price up substantially
