How did you get started doing this type of work?
I attended the Internet World tradeshow in Santa Clara, CA in 1995. Yahoo had a very small booth with the two founders showing off their online directory. The web was brand new and I knew immediately this was something that I could be good at and that it was going to become a huge opportunity!
What types of customers have you worked with?
We've had the pleasure of working with all kinds of customers in the last 21 years from Real Estate professionals, to accountants, plumbers, contractors, dentists, law firms, wineries, online stores and more.
Most of our clients are small to medium sized businesses.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
We just recently launched a new website for Fine Line Laser Clinic in Albuquerque. We scheduled the design meeting and within a week we had most of their new website designed and built. The client took a few days to review the website, make some edits and then we launched it. So start to finish the whole process took less than two weeks!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
There are many options for building a website these days. From DIY platforms like Weebly and Wix to WordPress. The key is to make sure your website is part of your business strategy and is going to help you grow.
You should also make sure your website platform is safe and secure. A quick Google search on 'WordPress hacked' will yield over 6 million results of websites and articles about WordPress websites being hacked. As a small business owner you should stay clear of that unless you have full-time in-house expertise on managing network security.
Finally, I would make sure and choose someone with experience. In the last 21 years we've seen many web design companies come and go. It seems that everyone knows someone who can design a website. The key is whether they are going to be around when you need help and whether they will take the time to get to know your business and build an ongoing business relationship with you. Many of our clients have been with us for over 15 years!
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
You should really think about what your goals are for your website. What do you hope to gain from having a website? More clients? More sales? More email signups? Define your goals and see how your website can help you achieve those goals.
