FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Lessons start with a free introductory lesson. There, students have fun learning their first song, explore the 3 keys to improvising great sounding music instantly, and even a fun little magic trick kids can do with an acoustic piano.
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
At the start of 2018 I had a student enter into an international piano concerto competition for young artists. We worked on over 20 pages of music and her hard work payed off big time! This past August she took home the first place award and got to perform her entire concerto along with an orchestra. She was beaming with confidence both on stage and off as we celebrated her achievement.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
1. Don't stop looking until you find a great personality match - this is essential for effective lessons! I work hard to adapt my teaching style to each student's learning style and personality and each student feels supported and stays engaged as a result. 2. Lessons should never just be about turning page after page in a method book - that should be only one tool out of many. There is soooo much good music out there for every stage of lessons that no kid should miss out on getting to play cool stuff each week. 3. Look for a teacher who coaches how to practice well at home. When kids don't know how to practice effectively at home they get frustrated often and become much more likely to lose interest and quit. In my studio we learn dozens of fun unique practice techniques so practicing never feels like a chore at home - and students advance a lot faster.
