FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to start by learning a little about my new student: How much prior experience do you have? What are your goals in music? (Do you want to pursue music as a career or for enjoyment at home) How much time do you have for practicing? What music do you love? (styles, bands, etc.) Then we dive in! My goal as a teacher is to get students playing the music they love as quickly as we can. I set clear practicing goals and write everything down so students can have clear practicing instructions throughout the week. During the first lesson I also discuss extra materials that will be helpful to students including books, recordings, and equipment (if necessary).
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelors degree from Cal State Long Beach in music performance with a focus in percussion. While studying for my degree I took many extra classes including orchestration, film scoring, electronic music, recording techniques and jazz piano. I have studied privately on all of the instruments I teach.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I studied music privately with many amazing teachers for over 12 years. Over time I came to understand the way the best teachers organize information and make complex techniques easier to understand by breaking them down into their component parts. After studying music in college, I started teaching and found out quickly that I am as passionate about educating as I am about playing.
