Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I have been training individuals, couples, small groups and classes for approximately 24 years in a variety of settings. In that time, I have helped people lose weight, recover from injury, improve golf mobility and power, reduce pain, increase flexibility, gain muscle, jump rope, box, train for 5k, 10k, half marathon, marathon and ultra running races! In addition to training clients in all those areas, I teach you to eat for your training to maximize performance and recovery. My reward is seeing someone own their fitness!!! Training is tough. Eating a healthy diet is tough. Getting started is even HARDER. I love sharing my knowledge and empowering people.

I trained with Tom for over two years, working on weight loss, strength training, and distance running. I really loved working with Tom and would recommend him highly. He always kept the variety good so workouts were never boring, and he was great at tailoring the program to my personal objectives which evolved over time. Critical to my success, Tom did a great job of combining both training with teaching effective stretches and corrective exercises that kept me healthy and injury-free, even as I picked up running longer distances for the first time, eventually completing my first marathon. Also, especially at the start, I was pretty remedial in my physical abilities – overweight and out of shape. But Tom never made me feel judged or inferior. If you want someone intelligent, professional, and motivating to work with, even if you’re just getting started, I would definitely recommend giving Tom a try.

I hired Tom as a trainer after not having stepped into a gym in 10+ years. Bottom line: over the next 12 months Tom got me into the best shape of my life. Tom is a true professional and simply a good person. He quickly found out what made me tick, and built a custom program where every session was challenging, progressive and fun - both physically and mentally. It was clear to me from Day 1 that Tom really enjoys seeing people reach their fitness goals, and then pushing them to achieve beyond what they thought was possible. My experience with Tom set me on a path towards a sustainable, healthy lifestyle that I carry with me to this day. I am indebted to him for the positive impact he has made on me.

Tom Doherty is an amazing personal trainer. Over the past 25 years, I have sought personal training expertise from at least 10 different individuals and interviewed twice as many. Sometimes, I was looking for help to tone and build strength. Other times, I was seeking a training program for a particular race or to participate in a particular athletic adventure (e.g. mountain climbing or a road bike tour). Over the years, I discovered that most trainers were basically offering the same thing, but maybe with a few different machines or a few different exercises. Tom’s skill set is one I have not come close to finding in any other professional. In addition to his bachelors degree in exercise physiology and experience working with college athletes as well as golfers, he has pursued extensive ongoing training in functional exercise and has developed a significant expertise in corrective exericse. He can recognize specific weaknesses or areas where the body is compensating for other places where it shouldn’t be. He has helped me recover from countless minor issues with pain or injury as well as significant issues with back pain which had sidelined me from most athletic activities. He loves what he does and it shows. He is funny, engaging and has a range of interests and experiences that are inspiring and thought provoking. He is knowledgeable about overall fitness as well as ultimate sports. He has raced in many marathons as well as 100+ mile team races. He is an avid snow boarder, runner, golfer and mountain bike rider. But, most importantly, professionally, he is intensely focused on each individual client’s health and well-being, paying particular attention to the person’s goals, blind spots, habits, motivations, and practices. His assessments of overall body balance, alignment and strength along with one’s injuries, pain, and endurance/fitness are targeted and informative. He educates clients about their particular body status and puts training plans together that prioritize the right set of strengthening and repair (as needed), so that whatever needs addressing first receives the right attention. He understands injuries and how other professional interventions can assist recovery (e.g. physical therapy, acupuncture, massage, etc.), so his training programs can work in conjunction with such therapies. His expertise is appropriate for those wishing to develop more elite athletic skills to those healing from injuries, eager to get back in shape. While his main client population is adults (ages 20s to 50s), he also has expertise in working with older adults and teenagers. He has had great success engaging older adults who may have lifelong habits, practices or injuries that need repair and correction along with light education. His training programs are targeted for the appropriate strength, mobility and capacities of the older individual. On the other end of the spectrum, he is a fabulous trainer of adolescents, girls and boys, understanding the different body types, developmental issues and appropriate training guidelines that can help educate young people about their own bodies as well as about their fitness capacities and goals. I highly recommend Tom as a personal trainer for these many different populations and targeted needs. He excels in this profession he loves. He is far more sophisticated than most “standard” personal trainers. He is committed to what he does and to ongoing learning about new developments and approaches in his various areas of expertise. Clients will learn far more than they might have imagined in their work with Tom Doherty.

I have been working out with Tom for about 6 years. I decided I wanted to try something knew and start boxing (but not get in a ring!) I get the best workouts with Tom. He keeps the workouts tough, but fun. We switch it up- in between rounds we do cardio, abs, legs, arms, ect. Never be same workout!! When I started I didn't even know how to punch, now I can do 3 minute rounds. My mother also has worked out with him and had great results. Tom personalized each session, I HIGHLY recommend him!
