Introduction: I’m a young, Virginia Tech alumna, working full time as an architect for over a year, and I’ve played piano for more than 20 years. I’m not teaching piano lessons to make a living. I’m teaching because I love the piano, and I love teaching. I want the goal of my students to love the piano and want to play, so I will try to make every lesson fun and interesting. Music surrounds our day to day life, from songs on the radio, to theme music on television shows, to the street performer you see on the corner. It’s a gift to experience music, but an even greater gift to learn how to make music. It is an intense honor to help a student learn to make music, to be excited with them about their achievements, and to struggle through the difficulties with them.

Jenna has been great so far. We have had three lessons and she has completely personalized the lesson plan (songs, exercises, and even the length of our lessons) to my skill level. She has given direct feedback on how I can improve my technique, and even suggestions on how I can get the most out of practice at home. I am very impressed and absolutely recommend her as a teacher.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
The following are the general prices for lessons, and can vary depending on the student’s situation. A couple examples: VERY young students (under 5) will have a lower price and multiple children in the same family will have a reduced rate per student. Whereas when I travel to a student's home, I charge a fee to cover travel & gas. $20 – 0-30 minutes $25 - 31-60 minutes $30 – 61-89 minutes $50 – 90+ minutes
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
In the first lesson, I bring several books, and work to determine the student’s abilities (whether or not they can read music, can they play 2 hands together, do they have any experience at all etc.) After that, I feel comfortable recommending music books and materials to help the student learn.
