FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Sessions are $100 for 45 minutes. Your first lesson, which I consider a consultation, is always free.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The flow of each lesson varies depending on the needs of a student. A professional singer may come in with a specific request "I need help signing this note, in this piece, for the show on Tuesday." Others may be looking at a longer process where we are building the voice toward so larger, long-term goals. Regardless, the overall approach remains the same: I register to the singers' stated goals, I listen to their singing, and I figure out how to get from point A to point B. Beyond that, there is no formula.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Voice pedagogy is a contentious topic engendering heated debates among practitioners and performers alike. Tremendous advances in the understanding of voice production have occurred over the past ten years, but many teachers and students are disconnected from this information. I took a two-year hiatus to pursue a masters degree in voice pedagogy at Shenandoah University and will continue to increase my knowledge at conferences, workshops, and with ongoing studies. These efforts will ensure that my students are taught a method based on a contemporary understanding of voice function.
