I will start with the positives- The owner of the company arrived promptly to the estimate and began the project two days after estimate- also arrived on time. The owner also was very professional when meeting with her prior to the job. She also had insurance, which was good as I will describe later. On to describe my horrible experience with this company. There were a total of 4 workers completing the project. After about thirty minutes of the company working, my neighbor came knocking on my door (he had previously been in the tree cutting service). He let me know that something bad was going to happen, as the climber appeared to be in a hurry and was just chopping at branches and already had broken off a piece of the neighbor's fence. Not even five minutes after my neighbor stopping by, I heard a loud bang and ran outside with my newborn baby with sparks flying at my house as the power line had been knocked down. Luckily, we also had an electrician working and was able to immediately shut off power, or else there could have been some serious damage. Very scary- especially since I had my baby in the house with me. After all of this happened, the company asked me to call the power company, instead of them calling. I did end up calling and Ameren asked that all work to be stopped and to stay away from the live wire. I shared this information with the company and they continued to work and cut down the tree, which I did not feel safe. They did need to secure one branch to make it safe but he continued to chop the tree down towards the power line, even after I demanded he come down. However, as soon as Ameren showed up, they quickly got down and ran off in their truck. One of the employees that came by attempted to steal a weed eater out of my neighbor's truck. I just felt like I was living in a nightmare. The owner did stay and made sure my power came back on-very nice of her as she did not have to. She seemed to be very frustrated with her employees. The next day the company came back and finished the job (I should have denied this), but the work ended up being complete and the tree looks good. I asked how much she was going to charge me after the horrific experience and she only would take off $60 after everything I had gone through. I was even nice enough to not make a claim to the fence she damaged and the work I had to pay for the electrician to stay and fix. She downplayed the entire situation and kept justifying the behavior of her employees. I am very disappointed with this company and how they handled this situation. No damages to your property. The damage to the chain link fence was from the first branch falling from the tree before we even looked at the job. Any damage to a privacy fence was between me and your neighbor. We agreed to settle to replace one board of his privacy fence. Im certain people can see through the drama and arrive at the truth.
I’ve got an old house in the city where they lined the property line with trees. One of the silver maples was growing over our neighbors house (the photo through the window sort of shows it). To make it even more challenging, it was planted about 7’ from our home and our neighbors home (you can see the tree at the left in the ground photo). Another obstacle was the four condensing units that could have been damaged. Oh - power lines ran right through the middle of our back yard which service multiple homes - one of which wouldn’t cooperate to have the line dropped and service lost for a day. Kim’s crew worked with around all of these issues and the job was done with zero damage despite all of the risks. Kim is very personable and honest. Kudos to Brad, her climber, who managed this challenging job. This is a small business but don’t be discouraged by the lack of fancy marketing materials. I don’t write reviews too often but it’s been a huge relief to have these trees gone and I wish Kim and her crew success.May 12, 2018Verified

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?Dead trees are very dangerous standing as well as while they are being removed, making them more costly to remove. Other factors to consider is the time spent avoiding damages to building, sheds, fences, landscaping, power lines and other obstacles. I do not recommend asking for a discount until you have a written estimate. Huskey Tree Service offers a legitimate 10% senior discount.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I review the project with the homeowner and make recommendations as needed. Answer all questions to the best of my ability and always honestly.
