Introduction: I'm a mom, school psychologist, teacher, and former homeschool teacher to my 3 boys for 5 years. I've been teaching reading (and math) privately since 2005. One of my proudest accomplishments in life is being that special person who makes reading a reality for young readers. I'll teach your child to read, so they can read to learn. I rely heavily on the tried and true practice of teaching the phonemic awareness skills necessary for a strong reading foundation. My students first learn to rhyme, segment and blend individual sounds in words, identify initial, medial, and ending sounds, which leads to decoding (sounding out and reading words), and then recoding (spelling). Finally, reading individual words leads to reading sentences, building fluency and comprehending text. It is a privilege to be entrusted with your child's learning.

My older daughter struggled in kindergarten with learning sight words and was losing confidence in herself as her classmates were passing her by. So, midway through the school year I started sending her to see Rachelle. By the end of the school year, my daughter completed all the sight word list that were assigned and was confidently reading more complex words and sentences. She started reading at her grade level by the next school year and has been a passionate independent reader ever since. After seeing the wonderful results, I preemptively enrolled my younger daughter to have reading lessons with Rachelle before kindergarten started. When the first day of school began, she was easily reading small books and eager for more challenging assignments. Rachelle's reading program works! My only regret is not using her sooner.

I have twin 5 year old boys and we struggled getting them to read. We tried all sorts of books, online resources and whatever we could get our hands on. It just led to more frustration ( a whole lot of yelling ) both for us as parents and the kids. That was beginning of summer before we met Rachelle. Now in a matter of months both my boys read independently and they actually enjoy reading in general. Rachelle's unique method of reading combined with many years of experience working with kids makes her a great tutor. She provides great resources for parents to take home and practice as well. I would highly recommend her.

My daughter finished kindergarten not reading as well as her peers. I was anxious that she might not be ready for first grade. I sent her to work with Rachelle a couple of weeks before the start of school. Rachelle's approach to phonics was practical and accessible. My daughter is now reading and writing much better, only after a couple of weeks of working with Rachelle. Thank you so much, Rachelle!!!

Our daughter (first grade) has been going to her twice a week for 2 months now and her progress has been wonderful. It only took a week or two to see changes in fluency and confidence. She teaches the basic rules, which I noticed are rushed or glossed over in the classroom. Once she learned some of the rules the game changed. Rachelle has a firm but kind way of reinforcing good reading posture, penmanship, and using the tools/rules. It's obvious she's been doing this a long time, knows the reading tool very well, and enjoys working with kids and seeing them progress.
