Introduction: Let me begin by listing my course work: Calculus I-III, Differential Equations I-II, Number Theory, Topology, Abstract Algebra I, Vector Analysis, Graph Theory, Theory of Calculus. My background lies in theoretical mathematics. This means I know how to explain the content, not just do it. I was the center director of a K-12 math tutoring center for 2 years. My ability to tutor ranges from Common Core to Calc AP to SAT prep to Multivariable Calculus and anything in between! Overall, I have 5+ years of private tutoring experience. I have tutored people of all ages. At the end of the day, Mathematics is a language. You must practice it over and over to become fluent. Many students find math to be gibberish and frustrating. But when it is laid out in a straightforward, logical manner that comes from true understanding, then things become very clear. I offer online or in person tutoring sessions. Online: I use Facetime or Skype for audio/visual and an online whiteboard so we can work problems together. In person: Let's meet in a public setting first before scheduling any house visits. Libraries are always nice since they have wifi and a quiet place to think. I'm located in Asheville, NC but willing to travel. All of my tutoring sessions come with a customized curriculum. I cater to the student. This means I write my own lesson plan using elements of the class, homework, and book to give a well-rounded approach. Discounts apply to multiple sessions!

John has always been available to help with my daughters' math questions. Both of them love John, and he has helped them enjoy math more. He is able to tutor at a very high and very low level of math. He responds very quickly to requests for dates and accommodates last minute changes in schedule. I think he is priced well and gives good value for the payment. I highly recommend him to anyone searching for a good guy who is a math genius. We used to call him BMG for Bearded Math Genius. Now that he has shaven, we will call him Clean-shaven Math Genius. With or without the beard, he is the best math tutor hands down.

Thanks to John, my daughter has learned (i.e. internalized) the concepts needed to pass (with good grades) her higher-level math classes. She's been working with John since her freshman year and she's now a rising senior. Additionally, he worked with her through her test-anxiety to get her ready for her college assessments (SATs/ACTs) by coaching her on test-taking strategies. John assessed learning gaps (from poor math instruction and a recalcitrant teen) and built a customized curriculum for her. As a parent, I'm incredibly grateful for John's patient instruction and commitment to my daughter's success. He has gone above-and-beyond in helping her to gain confidence in an area where she had none. I highly recommend him as a match coach and tutor.
