Introduction: My love for illustration fills the corners of every piece I've done. I have a unique personal style, but can also work to fit the client's vision and ideas. My experience in the advertising world allows me to bring a critical eye to my work and to making it the best forward-facing product possible. I've been drawing for most of my life, and I love getting swept up in a new project - finding the voice of the piece, and developing it outwards from there.

Jack McKean has done several drawings for me including some ideas for a logo for my business. I have a horse farm. I also have his paintings and drawings simply because I like them.

Jack was great to work with. I am starting a podcast with my friend and wanted a logo, both for thumbnail and a website and Jack delivered quickly and with extremely high quality. He first asked us about the project, what we were looking for etc, then created a couple of quick drawings of ideas. We chose 1, he computerized it and it looks great. Very responsive to inquiries, well priced, and very talented. All around very happy with the experience.

When I was writing a memoir, Art's Cello, a few years ago, I wanted illustrations. But not photographs -- I was looking for something that would mirror the creativity of making a cello. I decided on drawings. Jack's work caught my eye: realistic but unique. I ended up using his illustrations in the print version of the book; the digital edition was published by Kindle, and selected as one of the 20 best books of 2014. Aside from the work, which was superb, I was really impressed by his professionalism: he prioritized it, worked fast, and was extremely good at working with me to realize the admittedly vague ideas of what I had in mind. The result was better than I could have hoped for: he brought the world of cello-making to life.

Jack helped me put together a map illustration for my nephew including all the places important to our family that I then printed on a rug. He took the concept in my head and put it onto paper in a way that came out even better than I anticipated. Jack was a pleasure to work with and I really appreciate all that he did to help me.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to have a preliminary phone call or in person session with the client to get a general sense of their vision and goals, and to brainstorm directions to take the work. I then sketch out a few leading ideas, and we discuss further to make sure everything is on the right path. After this, I take the leading idea to final.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I minored in fine art and drawing at Kenyon College, and I'm currently enrolled in continuing ed illustration courses at School of Visual Arts in Manhattan.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I've worked with advertising agencies on pitches, and authors looking for illustrations. I've also done screen printing for tshirt designs.
