FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
No, I don't have a standard pricing system. Just like every project and every person is different – – and exists in a different context – – I take into account factors such as how far I drive, how many hours of prep the work demands, and how long the project is.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Every successful client relationship I've ever had began with either a phone call or an in person meeting at which both parties evaluate the fit of the project, schedules, and personalities. That meeting is just the beginning, however, because through that meeting I understand what materials, study plan, possible homework, and other resources may be necessary to accomplish the goals. I usually present a written plan with my rate, schedule, and project details. Arrangements vary from client to client and project to project, because I seek to customize the work to the situation.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
In high school, I tutored elementary and middle school students in an afterschool program over the course of four years. Accruing more than 500 hours gave me a good understanding base with which to decide I wanted to become a teacher. I went to college, earned my teaching degree, student taught, helped my dad beat cancer, and then returned to both the Northeast and to teaching. I spent eight years teaching career preparation, academics, life skills, and musical and photographic arts in a residential facility. I have two years of charter school experience as well. However, the experience that best predisposes me to success is tutoring itself. Counting prep time, transit time, and tutoring time, I have accrued over 12,800 hours of experience.
