Introduction: I am a Professional Organizer with a background as a Mental Health Professional. As a result of my training, I am able to help my clients learn and use the skills that will support them to change not only their environments, but also develop the habits/behaviors that will maintain those changes over time. Gillian is a godsend! I am so grateful that I found her. She is so patient, punctual, professional and efficient. She first provided a thorough initial consultation to learn what my goals were and how I came into this mess in the first place (i.e. busy life, grief, and home renovations - new carpet, floors, and paint throughout entire house). Then for her first real visit, in just one 3-hour session, she was able to transform my master bedroom from a storm wreck site to a functional and livable retreat!!! I appreciate that she has a clinical psychology background because she can offer real tools to help structure my approach to dealing with my anxiety when I feel overwhelmed with all the clutter. She is very responsive to my questions and concerns, holds me accountable, and gives me homework between visits. She also makes it easy to donate items by taking them to the charity site herself and vaguely itemizing the receipt. I feel like she is my personal trainer helping me lose the weight of clutter and reach a healthier lifestyle. She truly is a superhero who has come to my rescue! There is still so much for me to accomplish, but the progress is very apparent! I highly recommend her professional organizer services.

As a homeowner, who was packing up her belongings in order to prepare my home of 20 years for the market, UIC One Solutions was a lifesaver! As soon as I contacted UIC One Solutions, a schedule was devised to meet my needs in a timely fashion. The professionalism and expertise were evident from the start. Gillian, the owner, was always punctual, dressed neatly and friendly. She organized the task using a variety of packing materials and a sorting system, which allowed me to work alongside her with ease or order. I also liked that at the close of each session, goals were provided for the following session. Finally, I very much appreciated the questions Gillian asked about belongings that held an emotional attachment for me. The questions helped me to determine which belongings to keep and which ones to give away. I would use UIC One Solutions in the future and would highly recommend them for any of your organizational needs.

Gillian is a wonderful organizer. I just moved to MD from NYC area. She guided m e with her knowledge of organizing and background as a therapist. She was so calming in a stressful situation. Gillian is amazing--clearly a professional--always on time, great listener, helped us organize a basement full of stuff on a tight deadline (we sold the house). Every day left with super organised situation and pictures for us. We did it all virtually (video phone) as we were in Australia. Was great to know she had our backs.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge $70 for a 1-hour initial on-site consultation, but I am happy to do a free consult by phone. If a new client schedules an initial appointment for the usual 3 or 4 hour block of a typical organizing session there is no consultation fee. Additionally, if I complete the initial consultation and I also am hired to complete the job, the $70 consult fee will be CREDITED to the first scheduled appointment.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
If I have not done an on-site consultation before the first Organizing session, I will talk with a new client by phone to get details about their project, including but not limited to, what is motivating them to start the project at this time, what are their goals, budget, and time frame. I will also ask for photos of the space(s) to be addressed, if relevant. Furthermore, I will provide information about how Organizers work in general and myself in particular. Then I will discuss my fees, cancellation policy, and send an example of my client agreement for them to review and ask questions before the actual appointment.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a background as a Mental Health Professional which is very helpful in working with clients who want to change their habits in order to maintain the gains that they make in their spaces and processes. I have been a member of the National Association of Productivity & Organizing Professionals (NAPO) since 2008 and I have earned specialist certificates in the following areas: residential organizing, life transitions, and workplace productivity. In addition to having access to archival educational resources, several times a year I will enroll in a webinar to improve my skills in a particular area.
