What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Usually a chiffon dress starts at $45 for the first layer then $10 for each additional layer. Pants hemming is $15
A t-shirt quilt is approximately $16 per shirt
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Potential customers come to my home studio or phone to discuss a project, I try to give an approximate price as to not to waste your time. Usually a formal dress will take 3 to 7 days a memory quilt 6 weeks, simple alterations 1 week or less.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have worked in a drapery workroom doing home dec projects.
Worked in upscale men's store doing alteration/ tailoring. I sew all my own clothes and my daughters.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I sewed extensively for myself before getting a job at a sewing machine dealer from there I started getting commissioned for work sometimes I was asked to do things I did not know how to do so I would go to work for a tailor or in a drapery workroom to acquire the knowledge, I'd work until I could work independently. I got Proficient over the years. I spent years making window treatments, doing alterations and quilts.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I mostly service women and high school prom girls but I do have a few men that I have hemmed pants for or altered suit jackets.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
If your interested in having someone take care of your sewing needs from a prom dress to alterations to special needs like memory quilts or decorating your home then think about having your own personal "seamstress" I love building a relationship with my customers.
