Introduction: There is a lot more to being an excellent guitarist than just learning scales and chords.
I am a results-oriented, song-based guitar teacher with a casual, friendly, and encouraging approach. I teach by encouraging students to learn and study their favorite songs and influences, and incorporate them into the study of how music works, how chords and chord progression are made and played, and how scales, licks, and solos are used to develop memorable guitar elements in a variety of songs and styles. I like to focus on fundamentals as much as intuition, and allow the student to become the kind of player they want to be. I also teach basic songwriting, strumming techniques, and basic improvisation, and also seek to support less tangible/technical elements that are essential to guitar players such as energy, confidence, expression, motivation, and dedication.
I am currently the lead singer, songwriter, and guitar player of the indie rock band Two Cheers. I have been playing guitar for 15 years.
What I enjoy most is being an encouraging and supportive influence in the development of young players and songwriters. Confidence is essential for musicians, and that comes from the attitude of their parents, their peers, and their teachers. With confidence comes the motivation to pick up the guitar and practice, to learn new styles, to express ones self, and to pursue excellence. So, I like to see the progression of my students in terms of both technical and personal development, from being mere novices to budding rock stars.
