FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I have hourly rates in mind for different kinds of clients (profit vs. non-profit for example) and different kinds of projects and tasks, but I typically submit a lump sum fee or not-to-exceed figure if the scope is clear, because clients expect to know the final cost.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I ask a lot of questions and do some research to understand what a client and their customers actually neednot just what the client says they or their customers need. Then, I explore lots of optionsthis is both an intellectual (left brain) and creative (right brain) process. I refine and narrow down options to arrive at a clear recommendation, with limited options, for client selection. Then, I follow through to deliver professional solutions in print, digital media, or the built environment. When I need to, I work with trusted colleagues in design, technical writing, illustration, and Web development to get stuff done.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I earned a Bachelor of Science in Design, Graphic Design, from the University of Cincinnati. One great thing about the program at UC is that it comprises alternating semesters of paid work, or "co-op, experiences with semesters of academic study. Besides that, UC is consistently ranked a top tier school for graphic design. I have also attended sundry professional conferences, seminars, and workshops. For example, I became certified as a "compression planner," Compression planning is a system for facilitating meetings that are highly efficient and achieve results.
