About this pro
It was my first time taking on such a big project. I was out of state for the majority of the project and relied on him for photos an updates telephonically. I also had my realtor stop by occasionally to check on the work.I called and text him just about everyday. And he assured me that my house was being worked on. I asked for pictures which he initially told me was no problem. But once the project started and I asked he he told me it’s too many to send . Eventually he did send some pictures especially once the next payment was due. I also didn’t like how the payment plan was setup. He want you to pay half the cost upfront and the rest thru out the weeks. And very little for the project completion. And there are no penalties on his part for not getting the work done on time. The project was suppose to take 2 weeks it took 4 weeks and it’s still not done. He kept pushing the completion date back. He tried to push the completion date back once again and I had to let him know not to come back. I lost trust in him. I came to check on my house and watched him work and saw that he wasn’t working on my house everyday like he said he was. He never finished the project and I paid him most of the money. He did get a lot done but everything that he said he was going to do according to the contract wasn’t done. I know a lot of realtors, property owners and investors and there is no way that I could ever refer him to anyone.Mar 22, 2018Verified
Joe did a great job. He explained everything during the process and the work was neat and clean! I would definitely hire him again.Feb 20, 2018Verified
Joe did a great job installing a basement egress window. He had to cut the wall to extend the window space since the new window is larger than the old window. Joe was able to complete the job in a few hours. His price was extremely reasonable. In addition, I find Joe to be respectful, honest and easy to work with. My experience with Joe was pleasant and I am satisfied with the work he did! After the project, my son sealed the corners with Sheetrock and painted the space. Thanks again, Joe.Mar 31, 2017VerifiedJoe C.'s reply
It was our pleasure to work with you guys , thank you
Joe Cascio was the worst contractor I could have ever hired. He was deceitful, unprofessional, physically and verbally abusive, unable to take directions, and unqualified to do the job. I am detailing my experience so you as a consumer do not end up being lured in with a low price and fake positive reviews on this website. I hired him to do a bathroom and kitchen renovation in a NYC apartment, with some additional work in the bedroom closet. Before hiring him, I asked for a reference. He provided a fake reference from a person who worked for him (Christina, who works for his billing and accounting, was offered up to provide a fake reference). I found out this later when the same number who I texted to set up the reference call texted me to collect payment for Joe. First day on the job, Joe showed up at 2pm, even though he agreed to come at 9am. He got into a verbal altercation with my building super, which made it infinitely difficult for me to work with my building afterwards when I needed to get extensions on the project. He left the job before 5pm. That sets the tone for the rest of the engagement, where he on average showed up at 1pm and left at 5:30pm, effectively cutting the workday by half. Not only was he cutting the work day short, his team simply did not show up for weeks at a time. When he and his crew disappeared for extended periods, there was no communication - he did not return texts and calls and never notified me ahead of time. When he did eventually show up, he offered no explanation to his disappearance and became belligerent when pressed for an explanation, threatening to simply take my money and leave the job unfinished. He set up a payment schedule that puts the customer at a severe disadvantage, asking for 50% of the fees up front, and additional 25% after 3 days. This means by only doing demolition work, he already got paid 75% of the fees. My inexperience with renovation left me completely at his mercy. He took full advantage of this by yelling abuse at me whenever I demanded accountability on his front, and being physically threatening inside my apartment by throwing down heavy equipment on the floor, screaming, and slamming the walls and doors. The project was estimated to take 10-15 business days to complete. It ended up taking over 9 weeks. Of those 9 weeks, he did not show up for the job at all over 60% of the days. He demolished my kitchen and bathroom during week 1, and left it in that demolished state for 3 weeks without doing any incremental work. Walls were left unsealed which allowed rats to get into the apartment. He refused to respond to text during the work day and will never pick up the phone. This means the only way I can communicate instructions to him was via text at night, directions which he promptly forgot the next day. The way he and his entire team make it practically impossible for you to ever communicate with them after hiring them is the biggest problem you as a customer will face. He hang the cabinets wrong even though I left him the schematic and blamed me for ordering the wrong cabinets. He installed lights in the wrong places. He laid down tiles in the bathroom without smoothing the wall first, which led to tiles with large gaps and protruding unevenly from the wall. He doesn't have the right equipment to cut porcelain tiles, which led to him breaking countless tiles and I ended up paying for 50% more tiles than was actually used. The ones he did cut was uneven and chipped. He took shortcuts wherever he could. I explicitly instructed him to finish tiling the bathroom before installing the sink, but he installed the sink first and left large areas under and around the sink untiled. He did a poor job grouting the bathroom tiles, with grout smeared all over the tiles (which he left without cleaning up), and did not grout several surfaces. I had to go back and do it myself. Every fixture he hang was crooked and off-center and had to be redone. I ended up taking so many days off work just because it was only way to supervise the job. In the end, the experience was simply too painful I opted to hire another team to complete the work instead of working with him any longer. He is unqualified to do any plumbing and electrical work, and his team consists of a person who confessed to me has never done construction work before in his life, and a crack addict who is under the influence of drug all the time. The crack addict cut into a water pipe and flooded the entire apartment building. I live on the 19th floor, there was water damage all the way to the basement. The building is currently assessing damages. When this happened, he again refused to address it and told me to talk to his manager on insurance-related issues. His manager refused to take my calls or respond to emails. I will be filing a formal complaint against him with the Better Business Bureau and reporting him to additional authorities. I find it unbelievable his license has not been revoked yet and he has a number of good reviews on this website. Based on my experience, it is not hard to fake a reference, and it is certainly not hard to fake a review on a website. Please think carefully if you are going to hire this crook, and make sure you work out a payment schedule that is fair to you - you need to make sure he doesn't get paid for more work than he has put into or he will really got you by your nose.Sep 25, 2017VerifiedJoe C.'s reply
You lied to your building about the scope of work to aviod fees....you told us AFTER signing xontract you are going to move in ....and bring your ANNOYING father ........You MISSED a scheduled payment and SHORTED us on another ....YOU CHANGED the layout of the entire kitchen .....You had ALL appliances delivered and CABINETS leaving us NO ROOM to work .....you hartassed my men EVERYDAY .....
Joe was extremely professional from start to finish. I met with him to go over my concerns about my roof and water intrusion through an attic vent. I had gotten other quotes and recommendations prior to that but no one seemed to have a solution that sounded like it would solve my problem. He also covered an exterior ceiling in vinyl soffiting that came out amazing. I would highly recommend him and glad I read his reviews. He kept me posted along the way since I could not be present while he did the work. If you want someone who knows what he's doing with a lot of experience and fair pricing look no further. I will definitely be using him as my go to man for any job in the future for my home.Dec 16, 2016VerifiedJoe C.'s reply
