Introduction: I'm a published writer and author with over 20 years of experience in editing and teaching. Presently, I work as a freelancer, doing everything from simple proofreading to more detailed, line-by-line copy editing, from general critique and analysis of novels and memoirs to large- scale developmental edits focused on bringing the work to a publishable standard. I've also done complete book rewrites, and I've worked as a freelance editor for many years with a NYC literary agency.
As for some of my other credentials, I recently won the Gival Press Novel Award and will have my novel published in Fall 2016. My story collection won the Bobst Award for Emerging Writers and was published by NYU Press. My short stories have won an O. Henry Award and a Pushcart Prize. Many years ago I participated in the Chesterfield Writer's Film Project and had a screenplay optioned by Amblin Entertainment and Warner Brothers.
My teaching experience includes teaching classes in writing, literature, speech and creative writing at several universities, including colleges that are part of the City University of New York (CUNY). For 2 years, I was the co-editor of Outpost19, an independent literary press. I'm diligent, hardworking, conscientious and mindful to the needs of all my clients. Both business and personal clients are welcome!
I love reading other people's work and helping to bring out the best in that work, whether the assignment is a basic proofreading job or a full-scale rewrite/overhaul on a novel. I work hard for clarity in my own writing and bring that to all my editing work as well -- polishing up sentences, untangling badly-written prose, strengthening story, pace, and characters when working on a novel, providing detailed and in-depth critiques of book-length manuscripts.
Clear and precise writing is a gift and often easier said than done. I believe I can help bring some of that ease into the process. I take a lot of pride in working with my clients and helping to lift their projects to a stronger level of creativity and professionalism.
