Tina Kahn is a caring professional who keeps up with the latest in her profession. She has helped me and my husband deal with many thorny issues in our lives.Jun 23, 2018
We had one session with Tina and she was able to help us acknowledge respectively some negative habits that we have in our relationship. She helped us begin a healthy narrative that was lacking, and we look forward to more work continuing that conversation...Apr 18, 2018Verified

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? My fee is $125 with the first session free of charge for individual Psychotherapy and Marriage Counseling. I do not take insurance but give receipts for clients to file with their insurance coverage if they have plans that allow them to go out of network. Occasionally, in cases of great need, I will work on a sliding scale to be determined by me and the client jointly.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? When a new customer comes in, I encourage them to talk to me about their presenting problem, I get some background information and prior therapy and family situations and any traumas that I should know about. I am most interested in what they see as their strengths and successes. My approach is very positive and based on utilizing the abilities and experiences that have been beneficial. I look for ways to engender hope. I teach patients to be compassionate with themselves and I model compassion in my work with them. At the end of the session, I ask for feedback as to what was the most helpful and useful part of the session and which direction they feel they would like to move in. They are encourage to verbalize any negative feelings they had as well. I want my patients to feel comfortable and safe with me and with questioning me and verbalizing their feelings--positive and negative.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have a Masters Degree from Columbia University Teachers' College in Counseling Psychology. I did 4 years of training at the American Institute of Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis. The I completed the certificate program in hypnotherapy at the New York Society for Ericksonian Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy. I am in a very high level peer supervision group with clinicians who are top notch and have many years of experience in the field. I am constantly taking seminars to upgrade my skills and with my two licenses I am required to take 36 credits in each of my disciplines of Mental Health Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy every 3 years. I constantly read in my fields and am on a list serve on which clinicians raise very relevant issues and there is a lively discussion on the list serve about the cutting edge ideas in the field.
