FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I do have a pricing list with a description and price for the most common pieces. The process of work is specified in matter of time and number of revisions when a proposal is presented for the client to know what exactly I will do. It also specifies additional cost or charges when changes are asked after the client´s approval. Anything beyond the roof of the estimate is billed per hour. There are also additional fees for rush jobs or unfinished projects.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
For any project the process starts with a conversation to explore who the client is, what is his need, the objectives to reach and his market. It is important to try to have a good glimpse of the universe of the client. To have as much information helps to build a better and more clear proposal. More information can be asked after this point. When the proposal is accepted, the phase of design starts with the presentation of initial ideas for the consideration of the client to choose the strongest one. After a process of approved modifications I come up with one final design that will be send again to approve it as the final artwork. The steps can be more or less depending on the type of project. Throughout the project direct communication with the client is essential to be working in agreeable terms to guarantee the final product is satisfactory.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
In 1998 I received my masters degree in Graphic Design at the Universidad Rafael Landivar in Guatemala City. By that time, I had been working for a couple of years at the one and only textile studio in the City, where I was painting fabric designs for the Guatemalan and Peruvian market. A couple of months before receiving my degree I received my first job offer as a Jr. Graphic Designer at an advertising agency and was also offered a Professor position at the Rafael Landivar University. My life in the classroom lasted for 12 more years, but after two years in the agency I felt strong enough to challenge myself and become an entrepreneur founding my own studio, méndezdiseña. I had the opportunity to established and lead méndezdiseña from June of 2000 to December of 2012. I moved to Buffalo NY in May of 2013.
