I hired Johnathan to play at our wedding at the Hornsby House Inn/Yorktown, VA. He and his cellist partner were most excellent. Many people made comments about how good they were and how they set a perfect musical background for the 3.5 hours they played. I had provided a list of over 3 dozen popular songs to play and they performed each one.

I had the pleasure of working with Nicolette and Dr Jonathan. They were truly amazing on assisting me with my plan for me and my wife’s anniversary! From the moment I reached out, to the day of the event they maintained good communication and made everything such a smooth process. The tunes that I requested and the ones played around those requests were beautifully played and it of course created a day that me and my wife will never forget. I highly recommend working with Galatea Chamber Music. They will make your dream and vision come true!

I had Mr. Spencer play for a surprise Mother’s Day dinner and he was more than happy to help in anyway. His work was really good and he even match the colors I picked out. I definitely want to recommend him. I promise you he goes over and beyond to make your vision comes to life. Thank you.

This was simply an idea I had in my mind to surprise my wife, and Dr. Spence helped me make this idea the most memorable event ever. And I mean ever...since that night, my wife, friends and family have reminded me of the significance and impact of the event. And the violinist is always the thing that they reference. Talented, professional, flexible, accommodating—an all around great guy, and he really valued making the experience special and exactly what I envisioned. Thank you again Dr. Spence. You da Man!!! Continued success. And any fellas reading this...the ladies love violins 🎻!

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Dr. Johnathan Spence received his Doctorate of Music in Violin and Viola under the study of Hagai Shaham at Stony Brook University in 2017. He is also a graduate of East Carolina University, where he studied with Ara Gregorian. Ava Figliuzzi completed her master’s degree with Carol Cole at the Lynn Conservatory in Boca Raton, Florida, and her undergraduate work with Bayla Keyes at Boston University, serving in concertmaster and principal positions at both.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

(Founder, Dr.Spence) When I was 10 years old, right after my father had passed, I found his violin under his bed. The feeling I experienced can be described only as a divine calling. From then on, I knew that the only path to walk was the one where I have a violin in my hands.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

The key to excellence is to be actively performing and practicing everyday. When it becomes truly who you are, it shines through like magic. Our advice is to always go with your gut—identify and voice what is most important to you when hiring a musician to perform for your event.
