FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I offer competitive pricing for lessons, as well as discounts on buying multiple lessons at once. I typically work with 45 minute lessons priced as follows; 1 lesson for $40 5 lessons for $160 I am more than willing to work with students on a case-by-case basis to ensure they can afford my services. I also may add an additional charge for travel if the student is outside my normal range, though this would be discussed and agreed upon in advance.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I begin with a free introductory session, which can be conducted in person or over Skype, that allows me to build a personalized lesson plan. We'll start off with some simple repertoire and discussion about bass players the student likes and wants to emulate, and move from there. By the end of the first handful of lessons, I would like to see the student: -Display growth in terms of understanding music theory as it pertains to the instrument. This could be in learning different scales, reading sheet music or more advanced concepts depending on the student; -Be able to play a song of the student's choosing with my help, and; -Discover at least one new bass player that they would like to study, based on recommendations from me or via their own research.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm a graduate of Columbia College Chicago's Contemporary, Urban and Popular Music (CUP) program, and hold a BMus from this institution. I've also spent 4 years in a mid-level touring band playing blues, a style of music I have gained a deep knowledge of through my tenure with the band. This experience has given me insights into learning new styles of music, helpful tricks to know in a professional gigging setting and other skills that are useful to any musician, professional or hobbyist.
