- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was always handy even as a child. In 1982 at 18 years of age I went thru a training program provided by Davey Environmental Services. I graduated with the highest test scores of the class and became certified as an arborist. I went to work for the local park district and became the head of their Tree Crew. This provided me with experience in tree trimming, tree climbing, tree take downs, landscaping, use of various types of heavy equipment and more. Also at 18 I attended a Robert Allen No Money Down weekend work shop and began buying homes three weeks later. I performed all the repairs and learned by using technical how to books and asking professionals when ever I had a question. Most of the homes I purchased required almost complete renovations. At age 19 I was elected to the board of directors of the local Apartment Association becoming their youngest board member in their history. Exposing me to seasoned veterans of the local real-estate market and an endless resource of wisdom and opportunities. At age 21 I went to work as a handyman for a Real - Estate Syndication with over 400 units throughout the state of Illinois. I was part of a team of professionals with vast experience and eager to learn the tricks of the trade in a vast variety of trades. Soon I was being sent on solo trips to complete all encompassing projects. For example a burnout that required all new plumbing, electric, cabinetry, most of the walls, Etc. During this time I also took technical classes in various trades such as Air Conditioning as well as putting myself through several core classes at the community College. At age 27 I fell in love and moved to Florida, I continued my Real Estate investing and Renovations and also built a distribution from my garage into a 5million dollar a year business. In recent years and now t the age of 52 I've re-focused much of my time and energy back into performing the Handyman and remodeling services i've always loved.
