Scott actually provided a free estimate as he mentioned he would. He was able to diagnose the problem and have his guys come out and fix the issue in a timely manner. - What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?Diagnostic to find a wiring problem it usually an hourly rate of $85 with a one hour minimum. I have a $85 trip charge to come do a job. For remodel work or adding items for a customer I use a program on my computer, tablet or phone that has set prices I use when I am at a customers home that shows everything I am proposing to do that is shown line item by line item. I email this proposal to the customer for their review and approval. The line items show exactly what is to be done, if a company says "We can do this work for $300" then they start the work & tell you there is a problem and it's going to cost you another $1,200 to complete the work...then you are stuck in the middle of getting the work done and getting the screws put to you...I don't like change orders and charging more money, get it all in the price to begin with so the customer knows exactly what it is going to cost. Sometimes this causes my price to be higher, however, there have been many times the customer lets me know they got change orders and it ended up costing more than I was going to charge, for the exact things I quoted to them.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I prefer to come to their home or where ever the work is needed, meet the potential customer, let them meet me and see what they are wanting, give them a free estimate and schedule the work to be done. This takes all the guess work out of giving a quote site unseen, save having to tell the customer there is a change order and it's going to cost you more money than they planned on to complete the work.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have 32 years on the job experience. I graduated high school in 84, joined the Marine Corps after school, began my electrical career there. Been learning ever since, if you don't learn something new every day your not doing your job.
