Dr. Charlotte Yezhou Tan has taught at both private studio and collegiate levels. Since 1997 she has been teaching private students at a variety of ages, ranging from 4 to 70. She was also certified teacher for Yamaha Junior Course. Additionally, Dr. Tan taught at Middle School's Music Enrichment Programs in Houston (TX) and Cleveland (OH). In her home studio, she helped her students to achieve many accomplishments, including performance at various shows, prizes from competitions and Grade Certificates at the most renown examination board ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music). In addition, Dr. Tan was appointed as Associate Instructor at the University of Houston, teaching Class Piano I-IV, as well as a full-time Staff Pianist at the Central University of Florida. Since 2020, she has been the member of Music Teacher National Association (MTNA).
Dr. Charlotte Tan employs result-oriented methods in her piano teaching. She customizes each of her lessons based on students' ages, goals, abilities, and preferences. Her lesson contains multiple components, including repertoire, technique, theory, and musical appreciation. As a well-rounded music educator, Dr. Tan aims to develop and shape her students' own approaches to piano learning, in which their learning independence, abstract thinking, perseverance, self-discipline, and stress resistance become extremely beneficial for both piano and academic development.
Dr. Charlotte Yezhou Tan is an avid recitalist in the North America. She has performed in major venues internationally, including Carnegie Hall in New York, Moores Opera House in Houston, and Xinghai Concert Hall in China; she was also invited to perform with Kindred Spirit Orchestra in Canada and a concert-tour in China’s 13 cities. Since 2012, she has collaborated with orchestra members and college professors in recitals, including First Trumpet in Alabama Symphony, Second Trumpet in Orlando Philharmonic, and violinist at Lincoln Music Society as well as brass and string faculties from the Universities of Texas at Austin, West Carolina, Central Florida, and Houston.
