Introduction: My name is Carleen Paul and I own Skills for Success Learning. We provide the highest quality intervention for struggling students using live one-on-one sessions via Zoom Video Conferencing. Zoom Video Conferencing is HIPPA compliant for the confidentiality and security of your child. The ability to share our computer screens and provide mouse control for our students ensures maximum student engagement. From our informative student assessments and our specialized literacy tutoring, to our Cogmed Working Memory Training - We are equipped assist all struggling students. Many of our students have gained the literacy skills (through our tutoring) and the executive functioning skills (during our working memory training) to become independent readers and learners. Carleen has been the lighthouse in the storm for us. In second grade, my daughter could barely read, couldn’t come up with a word to rhyme with cat or box, wrote things that were almost impossible for anyone to decipher, and even occasionally did some odd mirror writing, yet she did not qualify for special ed. Carleen had the tools and knowledge to teach her the very fundamentals of sounds and words. I can’t tell you the thrill I felt when my daughter started to read street signs and even found the sign that said “restroom” before I did. After going through Cogmed, my daughter became much more organized and was able to follow multi-step directions, something she couldn’t do prior. Any time we came across a road block to progress, Carleen gave us the way through it.

I had been struggling with my daughter getting the correct testing from public and charter schools. She is 10 years old and struggling tremendously with reading and writing. We found Mrs. Carleen and my and began to setup our schedule, while at the same time my daughter was finally been tested by phycologist from her charter school. When I got results back, it was the about same result Mrs. Carleen had given me from her shorter assessment from her program. My daughter ended up qualifying for a IEP and will begin to get services next school year. But honestly this program is great!. I have seen my daughter progress. She is reading better, more fluent and she loves working with Carleen. I love the program because I don't have to drive around to take her. It's all done via zoom. She is very nice, flexible and patient. Would definitely recommend! Hope we can continue to work with her!

She now remembers letter patterns for reading and spelling with ease! When you move to Mexico, we will figure out a way to continue with her tutoring sessions.

Three years ago, my granddaughter's special education testing report stated that she was significantly behind her peers in most academic areas. We met Carleen with Skills for Success Learning through our homeschooling charter school. Carleen has provided Cogmed Working Memory Training and literacy tutoring. Last month, I received the latest special education testing report from the charter school...my granddaughter's academic skills showed amazing growth. She is now at or near grade grade level with most of her academic skills. The charter school's Educational Specialist was very surprised and impressed with my granddaughter's progress! I can’t say enough about how wonderful Carleen is. She not only is helping Devin with her academic skills but also has helped her with her social skills.

My son was a student of Skills for Success for several years. My son has a diagnosis of a learning disability, specifically, Dyslexia. At the time that I met Carleen, I was attempting to work with the school on developing strategies to best assist my son; however, they were I'll equipped and I was unfamiliar of the various options. My son's self esteem was low and I felt helpless as a parent. Until, I attended Carleen's educational workshop at my job. She was welcoming, knowledgeable, and passionate about helping children succeed. During my son's time of working one on one with Carleen, his grades improved, his self esteem soared, and I became empowered as a parent. I would definitely recommend Skills for Success! -Chanel

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Before working with students, I provide a FREE session to get to know the child and family. Although my rate states $45 per hour, I prefer to work with students in 30 minute time blocks (sessions). Each 30 minute session is $30. I provide a 15% family discount for multiple children enrolled in our services and a FREE session if 7 sessions are purchased in advance.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
It is important to build with strong rapport with each student, so I provide a FREE introduction session via Zoom Video Conferencing. During this session, I share with the student a little information about myself using a kid-friendly powerpoint. I also discuss my reward system to motivate each student. As a bonus, chatting with the student allows me to listen for language and comprehension skills to better instruct the students. Once tutoring sessions begin, I provide online student-based activities to assess the student’s reading, comprehension and writing skills. If a student is beginning to read, I also check for the student’s phonemic awareness, alphabetic principal, and sight word skills. After the comprehensive assessment, I then meet with parents online to discuss the strengths and needs of their child. Depending on the skills needed to become a fluent reader, I plan individualized lessons to meet each student’s needs.
