I hired Tim to paint some minimal pieces of peeling wood trim at my house- a total of less than 10 square feet. Communication was a bit lacking in the beginning, but we managed to set up a date for March 13th. Tim was very nice and began the project, however, it began to snow and he was unable to continue. I asked him if it would be alright if I paid him then and he could come back and finish even if I wasn't there as I am unable to take off work. He said that would be fine and he would be there by the end of the week. I did not hear from him that week and it was only the following week, after I messaged/emailed him, that I got a reply. He had had car trouble and assured me he would be there that week or would let me know otherwise. I did not hear from him. I texted him with no reply. I then emailed him Monday the 27th explaining that I was up against an April 1st deadline for an inspection and would either need the majority of my money back if he was unable to finish, or preferably, he would be able to complete the job by Friday 3/31. I never got a reply. I texted him on 3/28 asking if he had received my email, and attempted to contact him through thumbtack, also with no reply. He quoted me $85, I paid him $90 and out of 12 pieces of trim, he completed 1 and a half. I understand that things happen and obligations cannot be met, but I had saved up to hire someone to do a job that I could not do myself and a response would have been very appreciated.
