I cannot recommend Guro Conrad more highly as an Filipino Martial Arts instructor. As a long time practitioner of karate and Wing Chun, I really appreciate his teaching style. First and foremost, Guro is himself a very skilled FMA practitioner and holds very high standards. He therefore always reminds students to maintain proper "intention" when practicing techniques and movements. In order to allow students to grasp that concept, he continually connects drills to practical application, even at the earliest stages of learning. He is quite strict on this point, which I really appreciate, as it keeps us from getting mentally lazy. Also his explanations save us from having to figure things out by "osmosis," as we do in many traditional styles. Secondly, in private lessons, Guro studies his students to come up with a lesson plan that fits their attributes and weaknesses. This means that each lesson is tailored to the student's abilities in order to maximize learning and students are able to progress as slowly as they need to or as quickly as they are able. This is very refreshing and rewarding if you happen to be a quick learner and it allows slower learners to progress instead of just trying to keep up. Thirdly, Guro is extremely good at breaking down concepts and drills so that your body (and mind) can isolate a movement, but then also knows how and when to progress a student to the next step. This is very helpful, especially for beginners, and I have found myself going from a single basic motion to a free flowing interactive drill within a single lesson. Lastly, Guro Conrad really cares about his students and their progress, which really shows not only in how he teaches but in how he treats his students. We are very lucky to have found him!

I started studying with Conrad privately after I started taking the class that he teaches at the world renown Inosanto academy in Marina Del Rey. I expect a lot in a martial arts teacher. Someone with an extensive background (obviously well skilled and talented at what they do) as well as a very kind and caring person. I connected to Conrad's teaching style right away. He has a great balance of attention to detail but also a great sense of what is realistically going to work in a self defense situation. In addition to that, he cares a lot about the progress of each student. I highly recommend him to anyone from beginner to advanced.
