Introduction: The Big Butter Jazz band plays New Orleans traditional jazz and swing, focusing on songs mainly from the 1920's-1930's. We are comfortable as a feature band or background music. This era of jazz was the dance music of the day, so it is fun, energetic, catchy, and easy to listen and dance to. We're great for weddings, parties, fund-raisers, and especially events with themes like roaring 20s, Boardwalk Empire, mardi gras, Gatsby parties, New Year's Eve. We've played in LA and OC, from bars to clubs, weddings, festivals, and swing dances and we have our own PA. We can customize our lineup to suit the venue and your needs. Our full sound is 6 players, but we can mix up the lineup to make it sound full at 5 if need be. FYI, we are still open for New Year's Eve!

The absolute best swing dance band for the price in the Southern California--and anywhere as far as I know. I hired them to perform at a dance in October 2015 that included a mix of seasoned dancers and folks who were brand new. They were musically excellent and interesting in ways that were appealing and appropriate for the entire range of dance experience. And their popularity was such that it helped draw people to the dance. The only feature of this band that is not absolutely outstanding is that they can be hard to reach and communicate with. Still, even though communication wasn't as smooth or easy as I would have liked, they executed flawlessly and exceeded my expectations in every other way.

The Big Butter Jazz Band has a great sound, they're enjoyable to listen to and to dance to. This band also has an innate ability to change up the sound of their songs depending on what the event is and the energy of the audience. By far, this is one of the most professional bands I've worked with and the swing dance world has great respect for them. I have had the pleasure of booking them for a venue that I work with, The Lindy Loft L.A., who host some of the best swing bands around, and The Big Butter Jazz Band fits in just perfectly with the caliber of the company they keep. BBJB played at 4th Saturday Swing in Long Beach for a crowd of dancers and locals and blew the roof of the joint! They arrived on time, ready, and when there were any issues they were extremely accommodating and flexible. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Pricing depends on the number of musicians hired, the number of hours played, and travel fees (if applicable). PA system is a small additional charge.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Once there's interest, we like to find out some things about your event. Location, size, amplification, # of guests, etc. From there we will figure out a configuration of the band that will best suit your needs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
We are all professional musicians, most having degrees from music school. Some of us also are music teachers at local schools and colleges.
