Public speaking goals
Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I believe all people have ideas they need to share with the world. Whether this is at work, to investors, a wedding, or in daily interactions, I equip my clients to communicate the above with clarity, confidence, and organization. I center all my communication, session structure, and feedback around what will help you deliver most powerfully, thoughtfully, and effectively. Your audience should not only hear your words, but your message! That’s critical! My students receive positive reinforcement, direct feedback, and focused practice to overcome fears/communication issues. Also, I integrate content and coaching. Many may teach the public speaking basics, but my students apply this to every aspect of their lives!

I was fortunate enough to take Roy's Public Speaking 101 class when it was offered at my firm this past year. I have always considered myself a confident and successful public speaker but wanted to take the course because there is always room to improve. Roy was able to show me that I was relying too much on my theatre background when speaking and not presenting as myself but as a character. Through his class, I was able to develop a stronger sense of self in my preparation and delivery, and overall become a more effective public speaker. Roy has several tools in his teaching belt. The first is, of course, his ability to lead by example, being a powerful public speaker himself. The second is his ability to provide constructive feedback while still recognizing the strengths in a presentation. Lastly, and most importantly, Roy provides the tools to track improvement throughout the duration of his program so that each student can see the progress that they make. Thank you for giving me the confidence to recognize my areas of opportunity and change my presentation style for the better.

Roy taught a public speaking class I took. I have some public speaking experience--I took a class in high school, and I frequently spoke in front of crowds at college--but I was rusty after several years of corporate life. Plus, speaking in front of peers was one thing; it was a totally different beast (in my head) to speak in front of senior management and other executives. I knew Roy was an accomplished speaker before I took his class, but what I enjoyed most about his class was not just the advice he gave, but how comfortable he made the class feel. It wasn't a huge group--probably only 10-12 people--but he established an environment where everyone felt comfortable despite undertaking a very difficult task. Beyond being supportive, Roy was also very accessible. He was happy to take some time outside of class to give pointers. When giving feedback, he made sure to emphasize every student's strengths while also providing constructive advice too. For example, he noticed that I tended to move my eyes a lot when speaking, so he suggested holding eye contact longer and more deliberately. This would be a powerful move if executed correctly, according to him. He was right! After taking Roy's class, I decided to enter a public speaking competition at work. I made it to the semi-final round, and one of the frequent positive feedback I received was that my eye contact was strong. Today, I'm part of my company's rotation of speakers to present to new hires. While Roy will say that I did it on my own, I know I wouldn't have even entered the competition if it wasn't for the confidence he instilled me during his class. Thanks Roy!
