FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I always like to talk with my potential clients on the phone to get a sense of what they are looking for. Even if it's a basic portrait session, I always like to find out what is unique about the client -- whether it's where they live, what they do for work, or hobbies they enjoy. You'd be surprised what we can use to make the photo more than just a "smile at camera" situation.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've worked in commercial photography for years and continue to enjoy client work in both stills and motion (I also have a film-production company). But while I like commercial, it can sometimes feel very impersonal. Many commercial photographers don't do work for individual clients, but I really enjoy working with "real people" to get shots that they are going to cherish for years.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started freelancing several years ago in the commercial photography industry. I first started out as a photo-assistant, learning the ropes on how to shoot and how to light. Since then, I've started my own photo business as well as a commercial motion company called Deep Ellum Films.
