FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Many developers charge $1,000 or more to provide you with a professional online presence. I don't. For a fraction of that cost I will work with you to create a website you will be proud to share. Pricing is primarily based upon the number of pages and the amount of content we will develop. My average fee ranges from $300-$750 per site and minimal to no fees for quick updates such as changing a word, adding a sentence or swapping out a photo. You will be responsible for choosing a hosting provider (such as GoDaddy) - I can help you with that. Once you've registered your website address with them (usually less than $20/yr), and you will be responsible for setting up a hosting and email plan. (Generally, about $5/mo, each.) I work exclusively with WordPress. If there is a site template ("theme") you'd like to buy, as opposed to the many free options, you will be responsible for that purchase as well. Most cost about $50-$60. These fees are separate from my development pricing as I do not control them, nor do I receive a percentage of them. They go directly to the hosting provider. Then, it's time for me to get to work! :)
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First, we will select your website's address and make sure it is available. Then, we will choose a hosting provider (GoDaddy is my preference, but practically any one will do.) Once selected, you will need to create an account with that provider and purchase the website address we've selected. (About $20/year with Private Registration so no one can track the site to your personal information, residence, etc.) Then, you will purchase a hosting plan (usually averages $5/month) and email plan (usually less than $5/month). Most providers require you to pay yearly (so approximately $60 for hosting, $60 for email and $20 for your website address). After that, we will take a look at some of the awesome WordPress design templates and get a general feel for how you'd like your site to look. Once that's done, I'll need you to provide me with an outline of the pages (if there are more than one) and content (text and pictures - if you have them) for each page. Once I have the text and pictures you'd like, I get to work and develop the site behind the scenes. I'll send you frequent updates so you can watch my progress throughout the day and provide suggestions to make it "just right." Once the site is done, we go "live" and that's it! If you're interested in learning how to make basic changes by yourself, I'll teach you! If you'd rather leave that to me...well, you've got my number. In most cases, I can make desired changes within minutes of receiving your text/email message or phone call.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I learned the hard way: I put dozens of hours into learning the craft of website development (via WordPress) by myself! I figured out basic coding and HTML as well and enjoy learning more every day.
