Ira was the officiant at our 20-year vow renewal ceremony. He did an incredible job of working with us on the vows and then made a lasting impression with his beautiful, joyous and fun vow ceremony. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is getting married or renewing their vows.Sep 7, 2018
Ira officiated my niece's wedding. His approach is heartfelt, sincere, caring and personal. I felt as though he was actually a member of the family. He actually navigated the room and spoke with all the guests PRIOR to the ceremony to ascertain their relationship and where they traveled from. These pieces of knowledge were then integrated into his presentation. The ceremony verbiage flowed like poetry with appropriate sentiment and emotion. I highly recommend Ira's services.Jul 10, 2018
Ira officiated my daughter's spacetastic wedding that was out of this world! It was not your typical wedding, it was more a Star Wars vs. Star Trek event. Ira entertained the crowd and played into the theme of the ceremony with enthusiasm and energy. I highly recommend Ira Liss and give him top stars. Family and friends are all commenting it was the Best Wedding they have ever attended.Feb 18, 2018
My wife and I had the true pleasure and real honor of having Ira Liss perform our marriage ceremony in Malibu, California in 2015. She is Greek Orthodox Christian and I come from a secular but spiritual background. Ira was especially good at respecting our families' varied beliefs, and he helped us convey exactly what we wanted to about our own beliefs and values, and what our marriage means to us as a newlywed couple. I strongly recommend Ira as a wedding officiant. He is very thoughtful, well spoken and he does a terrific job.Jan 25, 2018

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?I charge a basic fee that includes a first conversation with the couple to discuss their beliefs, ideas, plans and preferences for their ceremony. That fee may be around $265 or so. This conversation is often face to face, sometimes at a mutually convenient coffee place. However, if travel and distance are an issue, this conversation can happen over the phone, by skype or video-chat. I send the couple a 1st draft of the ceremony I've written and/or edited that includes the ideas and thoughts shared in our conversation. The couple is invited and welcomed to share their feedback or thoughts about the wedding ceremony I've written. I do my best to make changes or revisions as requested, to help the couple be delighted and comfortable with the words to be spoken on their wedding day. ~ ~ ~ ~ I charge extra for travel time and expense. If I am asked to be present at the wedding rehearsal, and that rehearsal is the day before, then I charge extra for the time involved, and the overnight stay and/or additional travel time, as necessary. If the wedding rehearsal is an hour before the ceremony, sometimes I include the rehearsal in my basic fee. (In such a circumstance, I do not need to charge for an overnight stay or two trips to the venue. However, I may charge something more for the added time involved.) I am happy to provide my insights and expertise during the wedding rehearsal. Or, if the couple chooses, the wedding planner or other designated person can lead or direct the rehearsal. Of course, I will follow the instructions of whoever is designated to lead the rehearsal, and/or do my best to be supportive, and share my expertise if requested, to help the rehearsal run smoothly.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?Let's meet and talk. Or, let's get on the phone and talk. I'll ask you what you have in mind. What's your plan or vision for your wedding day? What would make it fabulous? What would please you? We might talk about all kinds of things while sipping coffee or tea. Or, while video chatting or skyping if distance makes a face-to-face meeting less practical. By getting to know each other a little, this helps me customize, edit, write or rewrite your ceremony. And, include those details, wishes and preferences discussed in our conversation. Then, I send you the wedding script and invite your comments. In my experience, comments are often supportive and complimentary, while changes or revisions are minor. If there are larger changes in the text to make, let's discuss it. My goal –– and role –– is to create a ceremony you're delighted with, and feel proud of.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work? That I've come to write and conduct non-religious ceremonies reflects a continuing spiritual life journey. Over a period of decades, I've had the opportunity to explore and question my own ideas of God, atheism, humanism, theism and spirituality. It is this continuing dynamic, spiritual journey that helps me be open-hearted, gentle and kind when faced with a wide range of beliefs. In addition, I have extensive training and background as a performing artist, poet, writer, actor, musician, teacher, pianist, singer, songwriter, show host, improvisor, MC and more. Having performed in front of 100s of audiences over a period of 30+ years in a wide variety of venues, situations and theater forms has helped me to write and conduct weddings. Maybe that sounds odd. One may ask, how does being an actor, pianist, solo artist, monologist, singer/songwriter, show host, improvisor or performance poet help anyone to write and conduct weddings? As a poet, writer and performing artist, my passion and joy has always come from connecting with audiences (from the stage) –– including wedding audiences (from the pulpit) –– that include your loved ones –– friends and family –– who come together to celebrate your wedding day. Aren't weddings our most personal and theatrical expressions of love? To whatever extent we agree that there is a theatrical aspect to weddings, then my performing arts background is fitting –– in an open-hearted, spontaneous, loving way that connects with wedding couples and their guests –– delightfully.
