- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I grew up in a household with animals. Never had fear of dogs. It showed as a baby.. My mother would find me under the table taking the dogs bone and chewing on it. when I was about 5. my mother and neighbors thought I went missing.. as the town searched for me I was found in neighbors Doberman's dog house sleeping..owner found me as he went to go feed the dog. The dog that was known to bark and bite at people. . He was tied to the dog house.. He was probably happy he didn't have to share his Dinner! I have became best friends with a St Barnard that was tossed around 3-4 different home with in one year of her life. became agressive.. has bitten few people. . The new owners wanted to try. Dog was fine with Husband but wife was very afraid of her.. and she had a good reason for it. Angie was very intimidating.. to most people. . when I met her.. owner asked me if I was ready.. I said yes. As he opend the kennel she came at me with full speed. . with aggression. . she jumped towards my face... That is when I grabbed her face and tossed her to the ground... then put my knee in her chest and told her..."Don't Ever Do That Again!" and got up. and she got up just started to wagg her tail and started play mode. We were Best friends after that! And she was able to stay at her new forever home with out Mom ever being fearful of Angie. I have many battle scars of breaking up dog fight or from grooming to training. But that just comes natural to my job or rescuing. Many other stories but to many to list here. So It was just natural for me to be in this type of business.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
In Palm desert I use to groom the old host of Hollywood Square show Mr. Peter Marshall's dogs monthly. He had four dogs all rescue. To customers who only have Poodles.. or just westies..schnauzer.. big mastiffs and pit bulls.. Or prissy Diva doggie to back yard mutt of all mutts. Love them all. I have done a lot of the rescue to pound dogs for free. so the can get cleaned up and go to adoptions or feel better while they wait for their forever home.
