When I first started taking lessons with Mark in January 2012, I was an adult beginner, most self-thought though I briefly took lessons from another teacher before. I could not play the easiest etudes by Czerny at that point (well, at least not properly). Without bragging or exaggerating, I can say that he transformed the way I play and understand piano music. What I especially like about Mark's teaching is that it's systematic and structured. Learning a new piece starts with analyzing it, understanding why a specific tempo is indicated, perhaps even learning about the composer and the historical context of the piece. This way, I don't simply memorize the notes, but actually understand what and why I play. When I face technical difficulties, he always deconstructs them and suggests the way to practice that actually works. He also has excellent suggestions for your repertoire. Over the years, I attended several recitals of his students, and observed incredible progress in most of the kids and adults he teaches. Overall, I would highly recommend him as a piano teacher for a beginner or a serious musician.

My two children studied with Mark for over 4 years and I have to say I couldn't be happier with the results. I could see/hear progress after each lesson they had with him and most importantly they found the joy of practicing daily. Both of my kids got the highest scores on their state exams and performed at Mark's studio recitals. He is so professional, patient and caring and I recommend him to anyone looking for a piano teacher.
