FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
In general, I have a standard $150 session fee, which covers pre-production preparation, the shoot itself and my editing time. After that, both digital-only and digital/print product packages are available. For sessions that don't really result in prints or albums, such as headshots, musicians, artists, etc., I have flat fees depending on what the client is looking for.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to meet or have a phone call with my clients before a shoot. If I am doing a shoot where the photos are intended to be displayed in a person's home, I love to go to the home first so I can not only picture in my mind where the photos will go, but so I can tailor my location and editing style to match the home's decor. Nothing like paying for photos that look terrible in your home!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I started out shooting when I was 13 with a manual Canon camera - the kind where I had to wind my own film. I took lots of photos of flowers. LOTS. When I was 14, I used all my birthday money to go out and purchase darkroom equipment. Our laundry room doubled as my dark room and I would come home from 8th grade for lunch, develop a photo and go back to school to show it off. Granted, I had very little patience for getting the timing and temperature correct, so I often showed up with green or blue images! I'm very thankful for the digital editing software available to me now! Over the years, I would take photos of my friends, I was on yearbook, I did photos for family friends. In college I would do shoots when I was back in town. After college, I was in Los Angeles and I (yes) took headshots (still on a film camera!). Once I had children (2009) I got a "good" digital camera to document that whole thing called childhood! Over time, I upgraded my camera, added lenses and started taking lots and lots of photography and editing courses, which I still continue regularly. Learning this wonderful world called photography is absolutely as exciting as getting to engage in it with clients.
