FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I have set prices for different types of work: Editing, developmental editing, proofreading, copy and line editing each have slightly different prices, however they are graduated based on number of words. I include a table of rates with each quote. For business plans and grants, I have a set fee based, however I have a time-tested process that does involve speaking with a client up-front. If that initial contact is a telephone call, I charge a consulting fee of $20 per hour so I can talk the client through the survey and gain sufficient information to be able to write a successful grant. (This process usually takes no more than 1 hour). If the client prefers to only contact me via email, I can forward that standard survey and he or she can fill the survey in for free. From there, I provide a fixed price quote for the project.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
1. Once I am hired, I then send you a letter indicating exactly what services I will be providing to you for the amount specified and the timeframe agreed to. This will include approximate number of words, rate quoted, and draft date, number of revisions and final due date. You would send me a confirmation email agreeing to the terms. 2. You pay me 50% of the invoice upfront. You can pay via Paypal or Venmo. 3. We will arrange a phone call so I can learn about your project. If you do not have time for a phone call, I will forward a questionnaire to you with some simple but important questions that would have to be filled out before I can begin work. These questions are the key questions that I need to know about your project prior to embarking on any writing. This way I can be absolutely sure I understand YOUR goals for this project. (I can be flexible, if you prefer to tell me the answers over the phone, that is completely fine, but I will need to spend a bit of time with you in order to get to know your project). 4. Once I have your information, I can write! 5. I will provide you with a draft in the agreed to time frame, or I can just provide you with a final product (turnkey) service if you prefer. 6. Upon completion of the project, I will send you a locked document that I will release to you as soon as the final payment has been made.
