- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I would like to talk with or meet in person to discuss goals and any limitations that a client has. I will perform fitness assessments and medical background surveys to learn where the client needs to start and physical limits they have. With new clients there is an importance of fitness education if they are inexperienced to exercise. I will want to ensure they understand proper form and technique when engaging in exercise.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have been a certified personal trainer since 2001. I have a Bachelors Degree in Sports Management with a concentration in Wellness and Fitness. I have worked for numerous fitness facilities around the Richmond area and worked with a wide range of clientele. I have been a professional firefighter/medic since 2007 which has prepared me to handle emergency medical situations. My personal skills as a trainer and firefighter have been highly developed through years of personal interaction.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?I have always loved to exercise starting at the age of 10 when I started running and at age 13 I began lifting weights. My mother ran marathons for years so I had a great influence in her. Once I began my training with bodybuilding and power lifting I was hooked. I fell in love with distance running around 2009 and have not looked back. I run multiple half and full marathons each year and even obtained a Guinness World Record in 2011 with a running team that raised awareness for wounded veterans. In the fire service I have been a fitness advocate for my county and travel to fire stations and train other firefighters. I trained clients at different facilities for over a decade and eventually took a position with my local fire department. As a firefighter we have a very flexible schedule with many days off. I have a very open schedule which allows me to train multiple days during the week.
