What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Typically I charge anywhere between $4-10 a sq. foot. Depending on the size of the job and the type of film the customer chooses.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I Have over 13 years of experience in the window tinting industry and I am 3M certified. I am also a part of many different window tinting social communities where I am constantly educating myself and looking for ways to improve my capabilities in this profession. Window Tinting is a passion of mine and I personally feel that their is no better joy than to leave a job knowing my customer is 100% satisfied.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
Its kind of a funny story....When I was 17 years old I saved up enough money to get a nice sound system in my car. I went to a local audio/tint shop to have the speakers installed and about a week later I blew the speakers because I was listening to them way to loud. A few days later in an absolute desperate attempt to get new speakers put in I went back to the shop and explained to the owner that I blew the speakers because I was being careless and well......kind of an idiot. (what can I say, I was young lol). To my surprise the owner was in complete shock that I admitted to blowing the speakers myself. He said "of all the years I have been here you might be the first person to ever admit that they blew the speakers and it wasn't something that we did". He told me he was surprised to see a young man be honest about something I easily could have lied about. He offered me a job on the spot and I thank god everyday he did because I had no idea what I wanted to do in life. After learning the ropes I quickly found that window tinting is something I am very good at and I can honestly say I love my job.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with people from all walks of life. General contractors, homeowners, government officials, professional athletes , elderly citizens. Some customers are knowledgeable and some are not. I always like to put up samples and go over each film type in detail so that the customer is informed on the product they are buying.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
A few months ago I tinted a condominium for an elderly couple. They were so sweet but they were extremely confused about exactly what window film was and how we install it. It was my pleasure to sit down with them and explain the many benefits window film has to offer and process of installation. It is jobs like that that make me love what I do.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
First and foremost ,you should find out exactly what kind of window film they are using. The benefits you are getting from your film depend on what kind of window film you are buying. Their are all kinds of window film manufacturers out there. Some are great and some are horrible. Personally we use Madico Window Films. One of the most trusted names in the industry. Secondly I would always check the companies reviews. In this line of work reviews are EVERYTHING. Anyone can just slap a piece of window film on your glass and call it a day. You want a professional who will always take those necessary steps to assure that your windows are cleaned properly before installation and that they are taking every necessary precaution while working around your personal belongings. I would also suggest you have the company come out for an estimate. Not only to get a quote but to also see the overall appearance of the employees that will be working in your home or business. The employees at OFX are always dressed in uniform, well mannered and always respectful of every customers home/business.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
Ask yourself, "what do I want to achieve by having window film applied to my windows". Do you want to lower your heating/cooling costs? Are you looking to have decorative film installed for aesthetics or privacy. Are you buying film for protection or security reasons. These are all things you should be thinking about. If you're not sure which film is right for you our professionals will be happy to help steer you in the right direction.
