I am what you would call a beginner+ when it comes to piano. I had taken lessons in middle school and stopped because I couldn't sit still. I bought a small electronic keyboard after college and would hit the keys here and there when I wanted to learn some pop song or something that caught my ear on the radio. I knew I lacked a good foundation and never really get to the next level without solid instruction. What I found in Kevin King outdid all of my expectations. From the start you can tell that he is passionate about what he does and when he plays the piano it's difficult not to become totally entranced. I was one of his few students that was not trying to play professionally so he had to significantly tone down his piano vocabulary but once he figured out my level he was able to keep me right in the pocket of always feeling challenged while not ever making me feel discouraged. He has a process that he has honed over the years and if you want to learn how to play the piano the right way he is the one to go to. You will learn the fundamentals of the instrument and how to create the building blocks of scales, chord progressions, tempo, and dabble in all the different musical styles. If you are looking just to learn specific songs he incorporates that as well - will provide you sheet music, instruct you how to play the piece dynamically and add a wonderful array of extra bells and whistles that you can incorporate into the song and wow those around you. Kevin is the best piano teacher I have ever had. He's always prepared. His lesson is structured in a way that suits my goal. I was shocked at how much progress I have gained for the short amount of time I took lesson with him. As a person he's super passionate and kind, yet strict enough to push me ahead. I'm a songwriter/composer and first came to Kevin to learn how to sight read and improve my technique. After only a handful of lessons, I was learning music theory, composition techniques, and reading notation. With some hard work and determination, I quickly noticed an improvement in my playing, writing, and ability to read music. Within a couple months I had built a playable repertoire. After 6 months, I was working on material that had once seemed impossible to learn. His teaching methods strengthened my confidence as a musician, while also encouraged my appetite for learning. Kevin is both patient and passionate about teaching. His clear, straight forward way of communicating made it easier to grasp complex musical concepts. He is also a passionate, hard working musician, and beyond excellent pianist. Any aspiring musician could benefit from his wisdom and teaching. I have studied piano with Kevin King for about 7 years total and have known him over 10 years. Kevin is a teachers teacher. I have a Masters degree in vocal performance in jazz studies from USC and have played piano since I was a little girl. Kevin has helped me not only with my playing but also with my songwriting, arrangements and accompanying myself. He is very generous and has advised and helped me with other music related computer issues, writing charts, buying equipment and recording sessions. He has been supportive, generous and always gives 100 percent to his students. I give him my highest recommendation.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge $60 an hour, payable in 4 installments. The student is allowed one make up lesson per cycle if necessary.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I ask the student their previous experience, musical goals, and to play something for me.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a M.A. In music composition from NTSU. Also, 23 years full time teaching at a private music college which offers AA and BA degrees.
