Poor communication skills and business acumen. When the craftsman tells you within 15 seconds of meeting him that he hates drywall, and he is there for a drywall job doesn't make you feel warm and fuzzy. He did an okay job although i had to touch up a few areas he missed on his final sanding. The owner/scheduler didn't give him the complete job request so he did what he knew. The owner wanted me to feel sorry for him because he has guys on vacation and he missed an additional request I had on the quote. Does he care that my dog died and I'm too depressed to pay him? - What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?We price by the job, not hourly. We provide FREE in-home estimates in which we typically send a craftsman to the house to meet with the customer, discuss the project(s) to be done, and provide a written estimate for the job.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?We generally start out by gathering customer & project information and scheduling a free estimate for a time that works best for our customer with one of our craftsmen whose skill set matches with the project. We send our customer a confirmation email with the date and time of the scheduled estimate that includes a profile picture of the craftsman assigned to their estimate including the date of their last background check. We also make a courtesy confirmation call 24 hours prior to the appointment from our office and ask our craftsmen to make one more courtesy call 30 minutes prior to the appointment to make sure our customer is still expecting us. Our craftsmen are courteous and punctual. Upon arriving at the home, we strive to understand the details of the project and whenever feasible provide a free estimate for the project prior to leaving. If possible, and if desired by the customer, we will perform the work to complete the project on the spot (more typical for smaller projects).
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?We maintain a Residential Builder's license issued by the State of Michigan, which covers all of our craftsmen who are employees of ours. Most customers do not realize that a builder's license or an appropriate Maintenance and Alteration license is required in Michigan for any residential repair/remodel projects valued at $600 or more (including labor and materials). Most of our craftsmen have between 10 and 40 years of experience in the construction trades. We follow Michigan codes for the work we perform, and as the license holder for the business, I undergo continuous learning as required to maintain our license. I also have a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
