Piano Pete
Introduction: For the last two decades, I have had the privilege of teaching piano at two of the largest and most successful community music schools in the Southeast: the Columbia Arts Academy, based in Columbia, SC, and the Jan Williams School of Music and Theatre, based in Brentwood, TN, just outside of Nashville.
During my years as a piano teacher in community music schools, I have successfully instructed and interacted with a student population representing a vast range of ages, aptitudes, attitudes, races, ethnicities and countries of origin. My retention numbers have been excellent, and I have prepared hundreds of students for recitals. I have taught and performed extensively across the wide spectrum of music, including classical, jazz and popular music, with a particular expertise in jazz, blues and rock music.

My daughter is eight years old, and had been taking piano lessons for a year and a half before we found Pete. Historically she was very hard on herself if she made a mistake, she would cry, get frusturated, and give up. Pete changed all that. She took to him immediately. She was giggling through the lesson, even when she made a mistake (a minor miracle). She had a wonderful time and Pete was able to teach her more quickly because she was having fun. When he realized how quickly she was grasping what she was asked to play, he always had new things to show her and teach her, sometimes right off the top of his head. He was very supportive, adaptive, and engaging. I would recommend Pete to anyone looking for a piano teacher for their child. He is an outstanding instructor.

Pete's patient, easy to work with, and knowledgeable about a wide range of musical styles. He taught me so much about the fundamentals of playing the piano, I was surprised by new musical acumen--thanks to Pete.

Pete is the most knowledgeable, patient and understanding teacher ever. As an adult beginner with no knowledge of music, I started out a little apprehensive about how well I could play (I have always wanted to), but now, I want to keep playing and I actually long for the week to get over so that I can forget everything and go for my piano lesson. What's just as amazing is Pete's knowledge of musical theory and musical history and it literally touches a chord somewhere when he talks about music so passionately. He also deals very patiently with my numerous questions and doesn't move on until all my doubts are cleared. If I can absorb even a 50th of his knowledge, I will be very happy.
