There are certain things which will be in common with everyone, like playing with safe hand technique and mastering scales and fingerings - we won't skip anything vital to be sure, but where we go musically is up to you.
Music is ingrained in me since before my memory begins. It's in my blood. In teaching there is an additional component that matters just as much - I love helping people learn.

Dan is an outstanding piano teacher. As an adult student, I was particularly interested in finding an instructor who could help me understand both piano technique and music theory. Dan has done a great job with my daughter, starting when she first sat down at the piano 6 years ago. He's taught her how to play the piano now and for the future- meaning proper hand position, practice habits and understanding the process. He has suggested appropriate music for her to learn and helped her with pieces of her choosing. She has progressed beautifully and has mastered a variety of easier to difficult pieces. His patience and sense of humor have no doubt helped her along!

I came to Dan Shaw as an intermediate level, older adult student. Dan is very flexible in working on specific musical styles of interest to me. He teaches in a confident and friendly manner, with good results advancing my piano technique and knowledge of music theory.
