Keith Burton Coaching
About this pro
Keith has a very firm but gentle focus on goals and forward movement. He listened well and picked up on issues I wasn’t fully aware of. He helped me quickly to identify my objectives and how to pursue them while supporting me to keep my obstacles at bay. He had a very calm and intuitive approach never rushing me and I always left our session with great confidence and uplift. He encouraged and acknowledged me substantially and made our sessions fun and productive. I benefited greatly from his coaching and would recommend him to others.Dec 12, 2016
Keith has helped me understand where my interests are without pain or embarrassment. After working with him and coming to a realization about my professional interests and goals, I no longer feel that my interests are inconsequential. My experience working with him has been great and I recommend him without hesitation.Oct 17, 2016Verified
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?More than anything, it is vital for the new client to feel like we are a good fit to work together. Toward that end I offer a complimentary 30-minute consultation session that simultaneously allows me to understand the nature of the client's agenda. The next steps depend heavily on the particulars of the client's agenda, but there are some common themes (largely reflecting my Positive Psychology orientation) that permeate my early work with clients. I will ordinarily encourage an assessment of strengths, values, and interests that we can leverage in our efforts to accomplish the client's goals. I will also work to foster an awareness of the importance of the goals, as well as the implications for not meeting them and how I can help them to be accountable for their progress. An assessment of the barriers and obstacles will accompany these early efforts, all of which are done in a warm, relaxing, and accepting environment.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have a PhD in Psychology (with a Clinical Neuropsychology emphasis), have trained in an ICF-approved coaching program (MentorCoach), and am a faculty member at a public university's psychology department. In my latter capacity I have developed an expertise in human motivation and emotion, research methodology, and positive psychology. I have also mentored, advised, and coached college students and colleagues in a higher education setting for over 20 years.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?Helping is a part of my nature and always has been. The expression that has taken has varied slightly over the years, but has gradually shifted from mentoring and supervising undergraduates in a university setting to advising and coaching both students and non-students. Seeking ICF-certification and establishing my own business to allow me to do more of what I love was the logical next step.
