Introduction: I keep my students engaged and hungry for growth by establishing strong fundamentals which you'll be able to apply to contemporary music from day one. As your pitch, breath control, and vocal agility improve, so too will your repertoire. I am one of the very few coaches who teach with an emphasis on R&B and soulful pop music styles, and I can back it up with over a decade of performance experience, having opened for the likes of R&B legends such as 112 and Boyz II Men, and having performed at some of the biggest venues in the San Francisco Bay Area. I love seeing passion develop. Passion for music. Passion for developing your craft. I love seeing the confidence and the drive for improvement of my students, both inside and outside the studio. But what I love most about the work that I do is that it allows me to be around music, all the time. It gives me an opportunity to learn from my students, so that I can continue improving as well.

We had our wedding at Vizcaya in March of this year - we wanted live music for the ceremony and cocktail hour to really set the island-vibe and Dustin fit the bill perfectly. There are no shortage of folks who play the uke/guitar, but Dustin was the only one willing to audition and he absolutely blew us away. His equipment looked (and sounded) top-notch and his voice - oh this can't be stated more empathetically - he has the voice of an ANGEL. It really felt like we were back in Hawaii - an added bonus is his uncanny ability to learn songs. He turned some of our favorite 90's jams into island music and everyone couldn't stop talking about it! I've referred him to 3 of our other couple friends and he's been hired by them as well, so make sure you book soon! I can't see his schedule staying open much longer.

When I proposed to my girlfriend of 8 years in San Francisco, I knew I needed someone there to set the mood. Dustin has an incredible voice (he was signed to a label!) and he's willing to adjust the style and tempo of any song to meet your needs. He's located in the Bay Area, and he doesn't charge travel fees unless it's outside of the city. From what I remember, they weren't nearly as much as other musicians. I Skype "interviewed" him and he sang a few songs for me - that's going the extra mile to land the gig! Whenever we settle on a venue, he's going to be the first one I go to for our ceremony. I haven't heard his full band yet, but I'd audition them for our reception as well!

This man has SOUL. We heard him at a house concert and knew we had to have him at our wedding. We're from Hawaii, so we know what good ISLAND music sounds like - we couldn't afford Common Kings or J.Boog, but I'm telling you, Dustin has as much talent as any of those folks. It was so sweet and soulful, we couldn't help but bawl when he played You & I by CRSB during our first dance. Hire this man! You won't regret it!

We opened a Filipino/Hawaiian fusion food truck in the Sacramento area last year. We had a great response for our soft opening so we wanted to do it big for our grand opening. Dustin not only provided his absolutely amazing vocals to be our background music for the party, but he brought his band along as well, and we just jammed out for hours. Dustin is an incredible showman and MC in addition to his Kolohe Kai-esque voice, and we would hire again in a second if we had another party with the budget for a live musician or band.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I offer a simple pricing structure for coaching which you'll find is very competitive with the market: $30 for 30 minutes $45 for 45 minutes Please get in touch for pricing for live music at your wedding or private event.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I always start with a free trial lesson - it's important for the student to feel comfortable during his/her lesson, and this time gives them an opportunity to see if I'm a good fit, risk-free. Concurrently, I take this time to understand what the student's goals are and where they are at in their vocal development. I note their strengths and weaknesses so I can create a solid plan for growth in the case they decide to continue taking lessons with me.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been training in vocal pedagogy for over a decade, the vast majority of time learning under Justin Stoney, owner and founder of the prestigious New York Vocal Coaching studio. Currently, I hold a NYVC Voice Teacher certification. I earned a minor in Music Performance at San Francisco State and served as Assistant Director of the Gospel Gators from 2012-2014. I've led master classes and vocal seminars at a number of famed Bay Area establishments, including the SF Jazz Conservatory, SFJAZZ Center, and was the resident vocal tutor at the City College of San Francisco in 2015.
