Introduction: I offer structured, focused walks and training for your energetic dog. An exercised dog with the proper guidance is a happy and healthy dog. Physical exercise coupled with mental stimulation and structure will have positive effects on your dog's quality of life. I specialize in strong-willed, big breeds, and dogs who may need work with their manners. My focus is general obedience. It's vital that these types of dogs have a strong role model and the proper guidance and exercise. A walk is not just exercise; it's an opportunity to teach and to guide your dog in the proper direction for long-term real world success. My calm and deliberate practices help contribute to your dog's sense of leadership, accountability, and eagerness to please. HODSHOUNDS is a business I started in August of 2015, in the hopes that I could help those who lead busy lives. People who need a conduit through which to channel their dog's energy. A driving force to assist their dogs in becoming the best that they can be. And who want to experience the infinite joy and companionship that can come from owning a dog. I wanted to take my love of people, dogs, exercise, and the outdoors and combine them into something special.

Matt has been walking my dog Mama for 2 years now. Mama is a special case dog, who does not like other dogs, however as her mom I refuse to keep her in doors all day. So I spent weeks and hours finding the RIGHT dog trainer/handler for my precious baby. So that I could be at work at ease, knowing she was in safe hands, but also getting some fresh air in her day. Matt fulfilled all of my requirements. He was knowledgeable and knew exactly how to handle Mama in order to keep up with her training. I cannot tell you how much of a relief it was to find him! He is respectful, timely, and GREAT with communication. You're family member will 100% be in the right hands with Matt.

Matt is very personable and professional. He readily connects with dogs and gets a good sense of their temperament. My dog is overjoyed when he arrives. Matt is awesome!! We were very selective in looking for a knowledgeable dog walker for our 2 dogs in particular our mastiff. Matt is a great fit, very trustworthy, knowledgeable about dogs in particular large breeds and responsible. Our dogs love Matt and looked forward to their walks, it's a great way to get some energy out during the day. We highly recommend Matt!!

A few months ago I started looking for a dog walker due to a change in my work schedule. I did a lot of research and came to the conclusion that group walk/hikes wasn't for my dog because he is a senior with joint issues. So I wanted someone who would do solo dog walks. I looked into some apps but didn't like the idea of different people coming to my house everyday. I wanted one person who I could trust (I am giving them the key to my home after all). I started interviewing people because I really wanted someone I felt comfortable with. After a few weeks of searching I found Matt. We first communicated via email and he was very prompt and professional. He came to my house to meet me and my dog Zeppelin and I immediately felt at ease with him and so did Zepp. He told me his style of dog training and I decided right there and then that he'd be the man for the job. Over the months, as my schedule fluctuates, Matt has been very accommodating. Because Zeppelin is an old crotchety old man, Matt knows when he needs to modify the walks. For example, if it's a real hot day or if Zeppelin is sick or achy. At the end of each day Matt sends me a little report on Zeppelin. (Which I love!) He sometimes sends me pictures, too. If you're looking for someone who you could trust who is reliable, thoughtful, and wonderful with animals- Matt is your guy!

Pricing is rather straightforward. It is flat rate pricing regardless of breed, size, or age.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to start with a phone call to introduce myself and get a better understanding of the client and situation. Then we will have a meet and greet to assess the situation in person.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've owned dogs, cats, rats, you name it, for as long as I can remember. I gravitated towards dogs because of their personalities, versatility, and ability to read people like nothing else. I carry myself with firmness and certainty. Dogs pick up on this immediately. And understand that I am deliberate with my actions. This is the best way to interact with dogs.
